I have been following Scimitar pricing for over a year now. Got my daughter one last XMAS along with a couple of buddies.
I can tell you that $1350-$1450 for a 35"-40" oryx is a SMOKING deal- especially with lodging - prices have never been lower. Figure lodging/meals at $100-$200 night and that is very close to $1000/animal.
Can you find a $1000 animal - maybe. I have been talking directly to land owners and some of them are considering that price (thinking about feed, new regulations), but that's strictly cost of animal. It would mean you would have to do a lot of legwork yourself to talk to landowners, etc.
It is DEFINITELY worth a $200-$300 to have that already done.
Will prices go down ahead of the regulations? Maybe. But one thing for certain - after the regs go into effect, expect these animals to be very pricey. I would jump on this while you can. I know I am - just as soon as I get back from my hunt this weekend.

Im interested in an Oryx hunt. May have three people. 35"-40" range. Looking to pay $1000 each for kill. Prefer a hunt with lodging available. If anyone has something let me know. Trying to get a hunt in before the new Endangered tag is needed. In April I saw a posting on Craigslist for a ranch that was somewhere around 2200 acres west of Austin. They were offering that range Oryx cow for $750 +$150 a day and bulls were $900 + $150 a day. Might look on there and try and find him. I called to talk to the guy and he seemed like a straight shooter, but I went after an axis instead.

My funds will not let me purchase a hunt at the level of this thread. Do not get me wrong for I would if I could afford the $$$$. So I did the next best thing. I entered the TPWD drawn hunt for Oryx at Mason Mountain. Sixteen permits available and I just need one.

I never thought I would see the day when people would turn down a $1,300 Oryx!! .....that must be awkward for all the guys who paid $3,000 to $4,500 for nice bulls over the last decade or so.

They will likely take longer than that to start implementing the permit process. But I still wouldn't wait too long. Sooner the better if someone wants one.
