My 7mm Rem Mag 700 series has misfired twice while hunting. It essentially cost me two trophy deer. I never new there was a big problem with the 700 series rifles. At least that is what the gunsmith told me when he looked it over and told me nothing was wrong with the rifle. Essentially the safety acts as a trigger. When I flipped my safety to the fire position the gun fires. I just think every hunter needs to be aware of this issue. Just google Remington 700 misfire and see what comes up. I am just wondering if Remington has fixed this problem and if any of you have had this happen. I was lucky that no one was hurt!

How did it screw up the hunting if it misfired? I would think an accidental discharge would be more likely to do that, which is really what all the fuss is about. popcorn

I own one and have never had a problem with it.

Had that happen about 10 years ago. Gunsmith took it out of the stock, tightened the adjustable trigger, put it back in the stock, handed it back to me. He told me he had seen that problem several times and if it was him he would install a Timney trigger and be done with it. So I did. No problems since.

Looks like I will just put a timney on it. Seems to be alot of people who have had an issue with it and the timney seems to be the way to go. I purchased a 30 06 700 in 2010 and it has a different trigger. I have had no problems with this Remington product. As far as messing up a hunt.....the gun discharged when I was flipping from safety to fire to take a shot.
