I had one and had a lot of fun shooting it. Then I found out that my shooting place was breaking the law (staning in Texas and shooting into Oklahoma) so I sold it. To me, it's about the least fun gun to shoot at the range unless you have maybe an LR-308 tricked out and shooting 1/2" groups. For a fun gun, I bought an SKS and 1,000 rounds of HP ammo. I've had it a couple of years and haven't fired it yet. frown

I killed a couple of deer with my AR before I sold it but to me, it was more a toy than a tool.

Not my choice traded mine a while back for a bolt gun, my next semi auto will either be a Garand or M1A.

I'm on my third one. The first 2 were bull barreled 5.56 Varmit guns and I never cared much for either one of them. They were just too heavy and bulky for my liking so I sold them.
I just completed my new 6.8 with a custom AR Performance upper, Spikes Tactical lower and added a Geissele SSA-E 3.5 pound 2 stage trigger and I just love this one. Shorter, lighter and will shoot 1/2 groups off of the bench with factory ammo. What's not to like about a gun that will do that?

I don't "dislike" them. I just don't need one for the kind of shooting/hunting that I like to do.

I hate to say it, but its the truth....

Most people who dont like them havent shot a QUALITY AR, or just the wrong setup (heavy barrel). There is a huge difference betwee say a Noveske and a dpms.

I like any firearm, but I'm more interested in precision bolt guns than anything else.

That is one of the awesome things about AR's; you can tailor the gun to your specific needs and preferences. They are just so adaptive.

I don't care for them either. They are highly accurate and have their purpose but I'm still a bolt gun person.

I wanted a semi auto that was cheap to shoot and good for a SHTF scienerio, and mainly just to have, and kicked around getting an AR or one of the 7.62 versions of either an AK or a SKS.

I got the SKS because I got a good deal on it, and played with it a while and collected around 800 rounds of 7.62 ammo and keep it, and the rifle in my gun closet just like you would a fire extinguisher I guess.

Glad I didn't spend the big bucks for an AR.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I can. AK-47. Granted it's not as accurate but it's more reliable. JMO!

I'm not paranoid enough to think I need a AR for a SHTF scenario

I'd have to disagree on both of those opinions. I think the AK gets a bum rap for inaccuracy, as they can be pretty accurate (2 moa at 100yds is very doable and fine for a battle rifle). The AR also gets a lot of crap for being a "jamm-o-matic", which they arent.

I have 3 of the things one is for my Daughter to shoot Hogs with and she loves it she uses my R25 in 243 to deer hunt. They are expensive but a good way to deplete the hog population and not break you on ammo, we killed 5 last week on the back of our place in Wolfe City she got 2 of em at least she thinks she did and that's all that matter's.

I don't think of the AR as a jamomatic but it does require more maintenance than a AK. It can also take more abuse and the 7.62x39 has more power than the 5.56.

Im not one of those whacko's that stockpile guns and ammo because Im afraid of shtf nightmares but if I was in a shtf location I'd want a tough reliable rifle that takes little to none maintenance.

Can't think of another semi-auto I'd rather own. AK feels like a brick in the hands. W/ the AR every thing is right at your touch. It's fun to shoot, but I spend more/all my time behind my 700 these days.

I go back and forth, been through four AR's and they never felt right and the .223 is POS round. The AR-10 is more for me but its heavy SCAR H is the way to go!

Only thing you really have to do with an AR is lube the bolt every once in a while.

All firearms interest me, and I do have 2 AR's. Since I handload I've become a bit stingy about my brass, and I hate chasing down brass from my AR's. They have multiple uses, I have mine (along with my AK's and SKS's) for SHTF duty. My big thing is old Mauser bolt actions and Remingon bolt actions. They're all fun.

love my ar's, the 15 & 10 but for accuracy they are not quite as good as my bolt guns. but its not about how good you can shoot, its about how much lead you can send down range. smile

Reliable dont mean squat if you cant hit your target. Hammers are reliable too but if you cant hit the nail what good is the hammer? grin

So are you inferring that they're not as accurate as a bolt gun?

I guess I'm a weirdo when it comes to guns. I own a lever action, couple bolt actions, and an AR. Just can't commit to what platform I like best. I think my Marlin 308ME is the most ergonomic though.

Not weird at all. Each platform really shines in certin situations. For long range work I like a bolt gun, for varmint/predator I like the AR, for deep woods I like a big lever gun.
