oops...didn't mean to quote that reply! LOL meant to make that reply on the one about Texarkana. interesting that you say this, I have been running a family owned steakhouse in Avinger, bout 1 hr from Texarkana for the better part of 13 yrs. We cut all of the steaks fresh on the premises...I have recently looked into opening a business to process wild game. I have had huge interest coming from the Texarkana area because they say they have no where decent to take their wild game. Fischer's Meat Market
Muenster, TX. It's worth the drive.
THE Best - hand's down! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif" alt="" />
Another vote for Fischer's http://www.fischersmeatmarket.com/Then go to The Center restaurant for lunch/dinner. Great food, especially the chocolate or coconut pie.

TD's in Strawn is my favorite. Used them for the first time last year, as soon as we walked in, he knew that we were a new customer and immediately gave us free samples of his product. Great friendly people to work with, and do great quick work. If you hunt around that area I wouldn't recommend going anywhere else.

After paying for a deer lease, trying to save money by processing my own deer, seems down right ignorant. Plus in Texas it is not legal to fully process the deer unless it is at the final destination, or at a processing facility. I plan on staying for a month, keeping quartered deer on ice for that length of time, again seems ignorant.

For East Central Texas...C&C processing in Elkhart (just south of Palestine) is by far the best. They are south of Elkhart about one mile on Highway 19. They beat Tallent by a mile and are much more reasonable in price. Super folks and a great operation.
For South Texas...Bar S Taxidermy about 10 miles east of Floresville on Highway 97 (between Floresville and Stockdale). Super friendly folks who do a wonderful job with all requests. His taxidermy work is very good also.
Have tried others in both areas and it was just a mistake to go anywhere else.

Any recommendations in Pearl, Evant or Gatesville? J4D on FM116 on the south side of Gatesville. Try their sausage burger mix. 254-248-5090
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Question: I hunt south of Rocksprings. I am not sure if we would want to process our deer in that area, but it would be nice to be able to drop it off to have it frozen so we can transport it back to Austin. (or at least frozen as much as time will allow)
How do you all transport your deer in areas like that? I like Hudsons in S. Austin, so would want to bring it back to there.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys!
Russ
Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible. Dale Earnhardt

RR Sausage in Castroville. Just north of the Chevron on Highway 90. He processes one deer at a time so you will get your deer back.
