I wanted to buy a tranquilizer dart gun to shoot pigs with so I can immobilize them and load them on a trailer so I can sell them live when they wake up. I wanted to know where I can get a immobilizing drug to use on them ?

i believe you'd probably spend more on the tranq drugs than you would make selling the hogs.... thats just my guess though

How would you track them with no blood trail, after they got darted, and head for the brush?Or are you gonna dart em,while they're in a trap?

I was going to go shoot out in a very large open field so if they run we can still find them. Also, I have been thinking about this because they won't go in a trap. We have about 15 traps on about 1500 acres but we cant get them in a trap.

I work at a animal shelter that works with the city of irving animal control. They have been trapping and selling hogs for a lil over a year now. They first tryed by darting the hogs but most of the time the dart wouldnt penitrate... or it just didnt work. you have to be right on with your drug amount witha hoffed amimal... darting wont work

I was considering this for while, never did much research on it though. Would make it a lot easier when trying to get them out of large holding traps. Something must be going on if you are seeing hogs and they are not going in the traps. What kinda set ups are you running?

Do hogs have a lot of food available to them? That may be one of the reasons they do not go in to traps. What do you use for bait? How do they respond to same bait outside of trap?
We call em pig but that does not mean they are stupid.

Make sure to take a sharpie and draw all over the hog's face when it is passed out. Or pile up a bunch of beer cans all over it and take pictures.

Pretty sure you cant eat an animal for a while after being tranqed and thats what the buyer of the hogs are selling them for. Just a trap and corn is all thats needed. Safer for everybody.

If you dart them they will have a withdrawal time for slaughter depending on what drug you use. Sometimes up to a month to a month and a half. Depending on the drug you use they might be capable of covering lots of ground in 3-6 minutes after they are hit till they are out. Needle length is going to be important to getting the drug into muscle and not fat for success. With all of this you are looking at one shot per hunt to get the hog. With a trap you are getting more in one trap than in a week of darting. Gonna cost you around $750-$1000 to get setup with darting equipment.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

All my traps are guillotines, but I will probably make some root gates. I think they are getting used to them because if they dont all go in before it falls they know to not go in.

...just wing 'em as you 'choot em. Then just round them up and let them recover before you send them to sell. It would give you time to fatten/finish them out don't you see.

X2 on what stxranchman said. All the drugs used for darting are listed as controlled substances and while you can use them, you have to get them from a vet and are highly regulated. A cheap dart gun strong enough to penetrate a hog is gonna run you at least $700, plus the actual darts that are one time use, the meds for knocking out, the meds for reversal and then you will hav eto keep them somewhere for a minimum of 30 days prior to selling for eating. Hogs are very susceptable to stress and I would imagine in the summer heat, you dart one an d"shut him down" in this kinda heat, pretty good chance he's gonna die. If you can get close enough to dart them, just shoot them with a rifle and be done with it.
