I promise I'm not trying to stir up a hornet's nest (believe it or not) but I'm confused....you shoot a buck on leased or public land that has the mandatory antler restrictions and the buck doesn't meet the requirements and you get caught. By law you have to reimburse the state for that buck...yet a person can buy some land, high fence it with fencing that deer can't escape, essentially trapping those deer. Joe public hunter man can't hunt those deer anymore yet the land owner doesn't have to reimburse the state for those deer. Where's the justice in that or am I missing something?

I think since the state will not reimburse the landowner for feed and water, the landowner is only recouping his expenses.

I'd suggest you read my seeded article about the move to nationally ban high fenced hunting. It's coming. I wouldn't be so smug about it. BTW the landowner doesn't have to supply the deer with feed or water.

It is against the law for me to keep a wild animal in my backyard, but if my backyard is 300 acres and I put a high fence around it, it is called wildlife management and the law looks at me favorably. Confusing and hypocritical?

That law has changed in at least half the states and the movement to outlaw high fenced hunting is proceeding on a national level.

Who should pay farmers back for crop damage???? I'd suggest you read my seeded article about the move to nationally ban high fenced hunting. It's coming. I wouldn't be so smug about it. BTW the landowner doesn't have to supply the deer with feed or water.

Most Texans doesn't care about what the other states do, and most Texans prefer that other states keep their nose out of our business. Landowner rights in Texas has a very strong backing, we cannot help if the other states prefer the socialistic standpoint of landowner rights.

Won't happen at a national level.... you know how many states have put up HF along their hwy's. Plus its not a federal matter nor do the have the constitutional abilities to regulate it. That law has changed in at least half the states and the movement to outlaw high fenced hunting is proceeding on a national level.

You pick it up. Under the law the deer belong to the state. If you want them off you can fence the property or pay to have them removed.

Not necessarily, getting depredation permits is not that difficult. Bang, bang, they are dead!

Pretty valid point, since the state won't pay, the taxpayers could be held liable jointly with the state, making them liable.

Laws on fence height make about as much sence as the state making pools in peoples backyards public use b/c they have rain water in them.
But to answer curlys question just b/c your HF ed doesn't mean you don't have to follow ARs....
They would have to join the mld program...same program available to LF ranches to avoid ARs.

I'd suggest you read my seeded article about the move to nationally ban high fenced hunting. It's coming. I wouldn't be so smug about it. BTW the landowner doesn't have to supply the deer with feed or water. Never, ever, ever, eeeevvvvvveeeeerrrrrrrrrrr gonna' happen! The state will never ban something that makes it sooooooo much money! By the way, did I mention it'll never happen!

The whole reason for antler restrictions was to produce more trophy class deer because trophy class deer equal big $$$$$ for the state. I doubt they are going to ban the most usefull tool in producing so many giant bucks!

Really? At least half the states have banned high fence already and now you have a bill introduced in the US House that would ban it on a national level. Read the article I posted. The state would have NO say in the matter. None. Read it. The last state that banned high fence was Indiana. It came very close in North Dakota and they were simply outspent. It will come up again there as the powers that be regroup.
