I've got two going right now, and they are 5' long, and I drilled only four holes in each and when I check them about once every five days they are empty.
They hold 20# per pipe so a forty pound bag takes care of both feeders.
I haven't had a chance to hunt them yet.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Put a few rocks inside that are too big to fit through the holes. It will still rattle after they get all the corn out and they'll hang around trying to get the last bit out.

Yea thats what pafree does...did u just build yours Nicholosi.. Its amazing but I left my hog tube for over like two weeks now and I found the pvc pipe like 50 yards away I was amazed they actually unscrewed it and opened the lid and found nothing... Im waiting for my game camera to arrive so I can see whats going on when Im not there...

I got pretty the same setup on my pipe. Only thing I did is I put a bushing in the top so the eye bolt could spin free. I put chain on it and drove a T-post in the ground wrapped the other end of the chain around it. Works great.

I want to thank yall for this thread. I built one today based on the info you posted and here is a hand drawn picture of how I built mine. I had a couple of malfunctions the first time out. They broke the swivel inside the tube. I think that happened only because the cable got tangled up on the teeth of the t-post and they wrapped the cable around and around the t-post until the end cap of the tube was against the t-post. That gave them a lot of leverage. So I put a heavier duty swivel inside the tube and slipped a 2' long piece of PVC over the t-post to hopefully keep the cable from getting tangled on the t-post teeth again. I will be going out next weekend to check the hog tube and fill my deer feeders.

similar problems with mine. they untwisted the 1/8 steel cable and frayed it. i figured you make hog snares out of it then it would last. i switched to a 1/4" heavy strength rope that i picked up at the army surplus store. they still twist it up but no breakage.
i do like twinbubba's ideal of the pvc on the t-post or even a short piece on the end of the cable/rope that connects to the t-post.

Try placing the swivel more in the center of the chain or cable rather than on the end. Believe it will allow more freedom. Should one end get tangled the center is still free to rotate.

I didn't put a cable on mine. Half the fun is tracking down the tube every time I go back.
