I actually was doing a job in Coleman yesterday. We ended up stopping off at the ranch for an afternoon hunt. At 5:30 I had this 9 pointer come through. He went to the feeder, which hadn't gone off, and smelled around for does. He then proceeded to an Oak tree for some acorns and then went searching for does. Had another buck(6x5) wandering through the trees and didn't go to the feeder. Near dark, I had a 2.5 year old 10 point(or was a 10 pointer-he broke all the points off one side) comr into the foor plot/feeder. The 6x5 came into the food plot for 3-4 bits of Oats and was gone.

Here is a pic of the 9 as he was running to an Oak tree.

I saw several dead deer on the sides of the road between Baird and Coleman. The deer are definately on the move. I also was 2 bucks in the middle of Granbury this morning while I was taking my daughter to school. I have never seen deer there before.

I watched this morning as a doe came hauling butt by my bow stand with a spike, a 6 point and two good 8 pointers right on her butt with their tongues hanging out. Another big 8 that was at my feeder saw them and took off after them! A few minutes later, a fawn came trailing up behind them. So, she must have been a wet doe in full blown heat!!

Southern Coleman, saw a spike Saturday chasing a doe, but then saw a spike, 8, and 9 all eating together under a feeder. Maybe some prerut activity, but not quite yet.

Shoot straight and always carry a 7mm Remington Magnum.

I think I feel my neck swelling up? Do you smell that?

Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

Guess it all depends on the ranch and possibly the condition of the does. The rut is going hard at our ranch North of Coleman. But, we protien feed pretty heavy and have numerous feeders and thousands of oak trees dropping acorns all over everywhere.

Took the kid out youth hunting this weekend on lease in coke county. Some of the bucks were chasing does, one big buck mounted a doe and went after it right square dab under the feeder. We watched quite a few bucks sparring but nothing serious, one old buck was working a scrape by a feeder frequently. It seems to be starting which is about my luck, I won't be able to hunt for about 2-3 weeks after opening weekend.

Well I watch all weekend for some sort of rut or pre-rut activity. I didnt see much of anything in those terms. We saw a tremendous amount of deer through out the weekend but nothing of shooting calliber.
I did take the 5 yr on opening morning and had to get out of the stand before 8:30 because his pop-tart triggered his bodily functions. I could only laugh to myself thinking that he is his father's son!
So I nebbed the 3yr old and went to a different stand by 9 and saw more deer there which was a suprise.

We are off of 382 south of 153 a couple miles(just down the road it seems) and we are seeing the exact same thing. Lots of deer with little to no chase. Bet it is hot and heavy this coming weekend though!

I did see a grey fox which I didnt know they roamed out there. Now if I can get the guys across the road to quit acting like it is a civil war, I think we would all be better off.

I did see a couple guys at the feed store on 153 with a couple of big deer but had the hammer dropped at 80 mph.

Are you all leasing from H. Edmondson? He seems to own most of the land in that area.

No, I bought it from Bruce Carlon. Edmondson does own a buttload of land though!

I saw even more rutting behavior this past weekend(when I saw deer). The acorns are making it so the bucks don't have to leave the brush/trees. I was noticing that alot of the activity over the weekend was from 8:30-10: in the morning and about 30 minutes before dark.

We're in NW Brown County near Grosvenor. The only deer we saw all weekend was a young 6 that was really working over a little cedar. My son said it looked like he was really proud of his first real set of antlers. Corn is starting to pile up pretty good too. Still too much good stuff to eat out there. Hopefully this little cold spell we're supposed to get will get their adrenalin going before next weekend!
