I has some fried years ago and it was great. As best I remember they only got meat off the legs neck and a couple of straps of meat on the shell.

Definately too much work to mess with a small one (not enough meat). I've had 'em out of lakes and stock tanks. Ones from lakes are much better. Muddy tanks tend to lend that flavor to the meat.

I think someone ate the big Soft Shell Turtle from Chandlers Landing on Ray Hubbard. I had been seeing that same turtle for almost 10 years and last year it seemed to have dissapeared. This thing had to be every bit of 50+ pounds and had a head the size of a beer can. So sad!

They're good for checking the zero on scopes on a .17 HMR or .22 mag. also. At least that's what I heard.

You can't keep soft shells caught in public water. You can keep up to 6 a day caught on private water. You can get a permit to keep more than 6 if you plan on catching them commercially. You can not keep alligator snapping turtles under any circumstance, so you have to know how to tell the difference between them and common snappers.

Never had turtle before..
Funny thing about getting older: Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to see through people's BS gets much better.
