Not wanting to start a debate on which gun is best, which caliber is best, ect. Just wanting to know everyone's personal opinion.

I like a rifle with a wood stock, with a nice finish and something unique about the grain of wood. I also outfit all of them with a plain jane Leupold 3x9 scope with the one peice Leupold mount and rings. I won't put a sling on a rifle that's not made of leather, and I always keep those little slip on shell holders on the buttstock. Those are just a few things my rifles must have for me to be happy with them.

What about yall?

I like you style. I don't own a rifle that doesn't have a wooden stock. No two pieces of wood are exactly the same. Add in a stratch or a ding and you have yourself some character. Blued is also my preference. Scopes, caliber, style, or brand isn't that important to me as long as it shoots true. I've got one sling " leather " that is switched to what ever rifle I'm hunting with.

WEll I have always prefered a light wieght rifle so I have synthetics, and as a rule of thumb to set my rifles apart I like to do my Custom Krylon camo. I have never liked slings so my rifle is either carried in my hands or on my pack. I always have a dope chart hand written on a flash card under 2 thick rubber bands on the stock.

Thats about it for mine

I use both wood and synthetic stocks. I have high end and the lower end scopes and rifles, I try to match the scope to the rifle. Which one I carry will depend on where I am, what I am hunting and maybe even how I feel that day.

As to slings, I always use a sling, some nicer leather ones, some just military style cotton straps. Again it depends on what and where I am.

My favorite combo is a wood stock Savage, an el cheapo, that has never failed me. Decent wood stock, not a fancy wood, but a nice finish and it has a Simmons scope on it. When I got it brand new the combo gun and scope was about $250. I wish I had a few more just like it in different calibers.

You sound just like me, I like all of those things, esp. the one piece mounts. I have wood, laminated and synthetic stocks..but there's just something special about a rifle with a pretty, nicely figured wood stock. up

Stainless and synthetic for me. I had a 700 BDL custom deluxe that looked like a peice of fine furniture! I sold it-too shiny and not something I cared to drag through the kind of stuff I like to hunt in. If I get it back, and I probably will, it'll be off to the 'smith for some upgrade work, then either matte blued or cerakoted and dropped into a synthetic stock. Or I may just let it stay where it is and just buy an SPS to tinker with!

Wood stock w/no Monte Carlo stock and no high gloss finish. Blued. This is why I am a fan of the old tang safety Rugers. The old Remington 700 Classics fit the bill as well. Optics vary but most of mine now are Leupolds. But I must confess that I recently bought a Marlin bolt action with the synthetic stock because I wanted a .25/06 in a lightweight rifle with a short barrel. I hate the stock and have looked for a replacement with no Monte Carlo stock even if it is a synthetic and have had no success so far.

I have had both wood and synthetic stocks. I have a wooden stock model 77 Ruger .270 with blued barrell that I have not shot in about 6 or 7 yrs now. I also have a Remington SPS 700 BDL with black matter barrell that I put a H-S Precision synthetic stock on it and added a Jewell Trigger to that is my rifle of choice now. Also have a .223 Remington with a synthetic stock and stainless barrell also. The .223 does not have a sling on it, the other 2 do. While I like synthetic stocks for the rifles that I use daily due to the fact that they get abused really bad from the use. I do prefer wood stocks and blued barrells. My next buy on a rifle I think will be a Cooper Firearms when and if I buy another one. Like their work and the wood on their rifles. The fact that they shoot well does not hurt them either. I have a Leupold 4.5-14 on the .223, a Cabela's Alaskan Guide 4.5-14 on the Ruger and a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 on the Remington. I am buying a Swarovski Z6 3-18 that I am going to put on a new rifle if I buy it or on the Remington .270.

I have come full circle I guess. I started with wood and blue and then went synthetic and stainless and now find that I like wood once again. My 700 BDL that I got in 1985 is the prettiest rifle I have in my opinion. Still wears the same Leupold that came with it and still knocks them dead and looks nice doing it.

My "go to" field guns are all synthetic. Shoot better and I don't have to worry out scratches. Got a few "pretty" rifles in the safe, but they only come out when I need an extra gun in the field for a friend or relative.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder for sure. I like all of my rifles, and they are all American Select Walnut, and polished blue, except for one.

Ruger Number 1 25-06 topped with Leo 3x9x50, this is my baby!
Ruger Number 1 280 Rem. topped with Zeiss Conq. 3x9x40
TC Encore 204. topped with Zeiss Conq. 3x9x40
Kimber 8400 Classic in 270WSM, this is my newest edition topped with a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x50, love this gun.

With my Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker with synthetic stock, I can worry less about my rifle getting scratched and concentrate on the hunt.

I prefer wood stock and blued finish. do like synthetic stocks just not the factory options. would have to upgrade to Mcmillan, Hogue, Bell and Carlson, etc.. my scopes are mostly 3 x 9, but do have some with more magnification. sling a must but I do like the nylon slings best (the claw sling)

I'm kinda rough on stuff, so its synthetic for me. Walnut feels better though. Blue or stainless wearing a 2.5-8 Leupold. Don't use a sling much, only when glassing or dragging.

.308 win
.270 win
.300 win

Bout says it all

I like "all" of 'em, but really partial to:

(1) Savage 99CD in .308
(2) Marlin 336 in .35 Rem

One that goes boom when I pull the trigger.

I've been pretty fond of my R700's . . . Nothing too special on them, just plain Jane's.

My little carbine holds four in the magazine, and I like the BC Alaskan Slings with shell loops for four more.

My long range gun a Savage 10FP also has a Harris bipod.

I'm about function, not fashion.
Synthetics show less wear and scratches.
Wood gets messed up too easy.
