Duck- browned in a skillet, then nestled into a mixture of cayenne seasoned brown gravy and rice in the same skillet and baked @ 350 degrees for an hour covered...and then there is always the old reliable duck gumbo....... Bacon wrapped duck breast on a charcoal grill using real charcoal, not briquettes, but if I gotta Royal Oak not that crappy Kingsford. The last time I used a bag of that stuff it smelled like I was burning roofing shingles......

Some of the best duck I've ever eaten has been breasted and grilled in the iron skillet right after the hunt. Being fairly early in the morning when I get back with a full limit , I like it served with breakfast potatoes (diced potatoes, onion, and bacon). I've done this with pretty much all puddlers and it's good every time especially with pintail or wood duck.

It's all in how you cook it. Gave Dad some; after he cooked his, you couldn't stick a fork in the gravy. Wrapped my with Bacon, stuffed with peppers and cream cheese, cook on a grill til the bacon was done. So tender, it would melt in your mouth. Dad swears I gave him the tough one. Can't go wrong with bacon wrap!

OK, here's some duck eatin for ya... Late morning and really cold. Thought we'd keep waiting for the ducks to fly into the cove, but they don't and we're getting hungrier & colder by the minute. Then in come a mess of coot and we shoot just for the heck of it (and to give the dogs something to do.) Minutes later, we're sittin there staring at some dead coot... and the campfire we built to keep warm. You know you're hungry when the thought of fire-roasted coot sounds good. Even hungrier when fire-roasted coot IS good! I'm not going to try it again to find out if it was just hunger or delirium from the cold that made me enjoy that coot, but I ate more than one piece!

I would love, love, love to duck hunt. Especially since you get to take a dog with you, but every way I have ever tried cooking duck, it never has tasted good. I won't hunt ducks if I'm not going to eat them.

common theme on this thread. You have to soak it in something else to not make it taste like crap.

That's why if I can ever get my own place to hunt I am going to build a kitchen or a mobile kitchen I can take to the duck blind. There's nothing like the aroma of bacon, ham, sausage, eggs, biscuits, and hot coffee enhanced by the aroma of burning gun powder...

Prepareing the meal following the hunt is just as challenging as the hunt for myself. When my wife and kids love it, I know I did well. I prep for the meal before the hunt. When I return with a kill it is that much more rewarding. I cook and eat all ducks

Saw Anthony Bourdain cook some mallard breast in a cast iron skillet in his episode when they went to Missouri. It looked awesome. Skin left on (feathers plucked obviously) and cooked skinside down. Will have to try it this winter

I tried something once. I had 2 widgeons. I breasted one and the the other I plucked and cooked whole beer can style. I might never breast a duck again. That beer can widgeon was one of the best I have had and I have eaten a lot of ducks.

i eat what i kill. if im not gonna eat it i dont kill it. i think its a respectable virtue instilled by my father and passed to him from his father just like i will pass to my son. i do suppose there might be exeptions like management hunting but the animal would never go to waste. i have too many friends that are more than willing to take some meat. i have been hearing people comment on coots. im thinkin i will have to try it even if it is just to say i tried it.

It is true that very few people on here hunt to feed themselves, but I would hope that most of us eat what we kill. In my opinion it is disrespectful to the animal and to nature to not eat what you shoot. God gave us the gift of being the dominate species so that we could be stewards of the land, we have the responsibility to use the resources he provided for us wisely. You should not hunt if you are not willing to eat what you kill. By the way duck is delicious, and I eat it all kinds of ways. Same goes for deer, hogs, turkey, quail, dove, pheasant, goose, crane, elk, and any other kind of wild game I have eaten. If you know how to cook at all, you can make wild game taste great. I am fairly surprised and a little upset to see how many people on here don't eat what they kill.

I haven't read through all the post, but why would someone kill an animal they don't intend on eating? If it's for just the sporting aspect, take up trap shooting IMO! To answer the question, yes I eat duck. It's one of my favorite meals to eat in the winter. Hard to beat marinated, bacon wrapped duck on the grill. Wish the season would hurry, I'm all out of duck meat.
