All you should worry about is pleasing yourself. YOU worked hard for the money that YOU paid for the hunt so YOU are the only one that should be pleased with the outcome. When someone else pays for me to go hunting then I will hunt when they want, where they want and how they want.

Most of us want to at least have an opportunity to take the targeted animal on the hunt we invested a sizable amount of money to hunt. How do we balance the "too easy" with the "challenging" and still have success and still please the "not real hunting" critics? That's the ultimate challenge of an outfitter/guide. I say I can always make the hunt harder but I can never make it easier. That being said I believe honesty is the key. Don't put yourself in the situation of selling a simple barnyard goat as a "New Zealand Mountain Billie". That may be a technically correct term but you're misleading the hunter. Don't bill your tame animal harvest as a challenging hunt. When you mislead your clients you gather this type of reputation. I'm not opposed to "harvesting" and have indeed taken some easy animals. I even had hunters talk me into allowing them to take a couple of Spanish Goats. That being said, I've never intentionally mislead a landowner or a hunter. Everyone knew exactly what they were getting!!! As an Outfitter/Guide most of my hunts typically fall somewhere in the middle. Sometimes the challenge varies with the mood of the animal which may change several times in a day. I remember a Red Hind hunt in 2009 where we worked on those dang deer for about 8 hours and they just wouldn't give us a shot. Then..... just before dark we took two Hinds at 20 yards. They were totally tame. Once this year, again with Hinds, they actually ran at the truck when I started spreading corn. Also this year we worked for 8 hours for a single Axis doe. That's just the way the ball bounces. To each his own IMO. Just be honest.

I understand that Gary.............but when one is literally kicking animals in the behind to get them out of your blind or alfalfa it kind veers away from the so called hunt, imo

If you don't see the quality of animal you want and choose not to shoot so be it but if I tell you I want a black blackbuck and you say you have them then in 2+ days of hunting and driving around not one is seen then I cry foul. Then again, I don't know how to draw the line because several hundred or 1K plus dollars is a lot of money out of my pocket to sit in a stand and be bored as well. I don't want to get a "tame" animal but when you show up, pay a fee and sit in the rain you should at least see the type of animals you paid to hunt. It is a difficult question for me ethically.

I realize that we all have our own opinions about the whole Thompson Temple thing....... I just hope that someone who wants to go doesnt form a negative opinion of the place by reading these posts. I have a lot of respect for some of the folks that went when Roy went and I have hunted other places with them and enjoyed every second of it. I am just glad I didnt let their opinion of the place sway my decision to go. I have had an absolute blast all three times I have gone. The last time I went I didnt even shoot anything but it was by my choice. Spending time with my 65+ year old father was worth every second of it. Take it for what its worth and if you go go in with an open mind.

This is an interesting debate but I tend to agree that the experience is what you make it. I hunted with TT back in '98 when he was based in Ingram with the bunkhouse in town. I was right out to college and had no money so for me it was an opportunity to get out there and take an animal at a reasonable cost and with my limited hunting experience up to that point have a decent chance of success. I was so pumped I did the whole entering it into the ROE and signed up to purchase the book when it came out. For me it was all positive but I had no basis for comparison.

Do any of you remember when Catfish, John Paul or Finn worked for T.T.? That was back 30 or more years ago.

Yes I think I remember hearing that John Paul Ingram, and also Finn Aaggard both passing on. I saw Catfish "Chris Woerner" about 15 years ago but not since. T.T. had a very good organization back then in Ingram. I guess besides the Patio Ranch and the Flying A one of the best around the Hill Country. How things change.
