This one is from the area you describe. Where are you at on the N. Wichita?

Not huge numbers of deer, but the ones that are there can grow plenty big.

Agreed with Grayson! This past season was our first year in the area, so I'll help out as I can with some insight and some deer pics from our first year. We are in both Knox and Foard counties with about 2.5 miles of the Wichita running through the property. We also have about 3 miles of the property that borders the Waggoner Ranch. From what I've been told by locals in the area, the Waggoner is a big reason a good portion of the deer are able to age in the area, as it is a ranch consisting of over 500,000 acres that has never been hunted. Based on your location, sounds as if you're fairly close too. In talking with our neighbors, it seems that 130-150 class deer are very common in the area with a realistic chance of a 150+ at anytime. Big bodied deer too. 150-200lbs on your more mature deer. Unfortunately, we weren't able to havest a 150 class deer, as our place wasn't hunted for the first two weeks of the season due to the kiddo's football playoffs...and it seems the bigger deer in the area were killed around the 2nd week of Nov., during the rut. We don't have too many mature deer caught on camera, but we have spooked deer when driving that I know would reach the 150 class...which is a huge trophy in my book. Maybe next year! Here are some of the pics of deer harvested and caught on camera from our first year in the area. Enjoy your hunting. Oh yeah, the big boy (190+, 17pts) was killed on the property in 2007. Not sure I would have believed it, but that is a buddy of mine holding the deer. He hunted the property across the street during that time and when he noticed the deer in the truck at the gate, he had to stop and look..and then take a pic with it and lie to his buddies that he killed it! LOL Proof of that deer, makes every hunt very exciting. Pics to follow.

Back in the early 90s we got on a lease in Kent co.We stopped in Jayton for gas and provisions with blinds and feeders on trailers, and had a couple of ranchers ask where we were going ,when we told them about our new Deer lease on the salt fork they both looked at each other and started laughing and said something like "boys have ya"ll already paid your money"?because there are no deer around here, they were partially right.Out of ten guys we shot three bucks, from low 130s to 169.The deer hunting when we left (landowner found some doctors from Dallas that offered more dinero} was nothing short of phenomenal.

I was raised in Knox City. Good deer around there, especially where you are talking about. Tons of hogs too.

Are you right off of HWY 6? How close to the Wichita river?
