Well I asked the guy at Kubys 3-4 years ago how many deer they did a year and he said..."between 7,000 & 9,000" now imagine if one out of 100 didnt pick their deer up??????
and oh yeah the people who own Kubys own their own deli!!!!! wonder where the left overs go?????? Mr. Kuby is a really good guy.

Guess i could of said, i paid for 20lbs of summer sausage and got 14.5, At $3.50 a lb that is almost $20.00. You pay for the wet weight. Take a "half pound" cheeseburger at your local burger joint. That is pre-cooked weight. Your actual cooked burger will weigh less...

There is a fairly simple solution, grind your own.

Don't mess with Karl!
Kuby's adds nothing to their ground venison and it makes awesome burgers, chili, spaghetti with no addtional meat product added.

Unless they got Ray Charles bonin' out their animals, YES. I asked a processor friend of mine why you get more meat back at the 1st of the season than you do at the end of the season. His reply was "as processors get further behind, they take less time on each animal. Thus less meat." It's no secret when you work too fast, you won't do a good job. The best processing job you'll ever get, will wear ya out. I process all of my deer myself and can tell you that a good boning job will yield a couple of pounds more meat. So, I believe the above. I have a grinder and grind what I need mixing with ground beef if I decide to. I take only trimmed meat to a processor to have sausage made. I use to make my own sausage but it is a lot of work. I do make my own jerky.

Ragedy Creek Processing, Crowell Texas will weigh it for you. They keep your deer separate throughout the process. They are the best I have seen at getting more than you can imagine off a deer. Processed and packaged, frozen, a big 8pt, two does, and a 150-175 pound pig, filled up 3 120 quart coolers full, and a big grocery sack.
I've heard horror stories. I have quit one place that I thought was either getting lazy or sloppy or both.
Detroit Locker Plant, Detroit Texas does a fine job too. They pool their meat. I always carry mine to Rivercrest High School. $20-$30 You just gut and skin it.

I am sure it happens...in ALL business there are always the crooks... I've been using the same processor for 20+years. Your meat is weighed and you are provided with the weight. I have been in his cooler and his back room and I have seen how he works. The customers animal is kept in it's own bag...they process one animal at a time....not bulk where meat may get mixed in another bag. I even give em my backstrap to butterfly and I have never even slightly suspected one piece was missing. And yes, here comes the unpaid promo...Thye make the BEST Jalapeno and Cheese Smoked links I've ever tasted.... Bay Area Deer Processing, Pasagetdowndena TX (713)472-6000If you're close, try em once...I think you will be very glad you did... (this announcement is an unpaid endorsememnt by the poster and is in no way a reflection of the thoughts and views of the Texas Hunting Forum ) Agree. That's who I use, and know several people who use them. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

I have been really burned by K and G Meat Processors in Kerrville and wanted to alert hunters not to risk using them. I had heard other hunters don't think they get their correct meat back either. I really got cheated. My husband and I took three big deer to them at the same time, one was an axis doe, 70 lbs hanging weight, the two w/t were 55lbs at least hanging weight. Got three real small boxes, no axis meat and some sika we didn't even shoot. They lost my axis pelt. I will NEVER go back to them, I suggest everyone spread the work they are dishonest, cheaters, waste meat, bad business. He has high school students working for him and the taxidermist around the corner told me they lost other hunter's meat and throw the pelts in the freezer never to be found.
