Hot hammer forged of course. Well what do you know. So this hammer forging is done by most manufacturers? Little secret, these days its not the process of how its made, its how well its made in the process.

thought it was chromemoly Chrome Moly refers to the type of steel, usually 4140. Hammer forging is the process in which the barrel is made...basically. Your hammer forged Howa barrel is Chrome Moly too. Little metal brake down: 4140 4-indicates molybdenum 1-indicates Chromium 40-indicates 40 points of carbon content or .4% overall content

Im guessing you are asking about other methods of forming the rifling.
Hammer forging be it cold or hot(one is formed hot, ones cold) requires very expensive tooling, but produces barrels at very low cost. This process is used by high volume operators such as manufacurers. In addition, you can form the chamber and the bore in one step.
Buttoned or cut rifling lends itself to producing lower quantities. These methods are used by custom barrel makers. This is the option if you want the best.
However, don't think hammer forged barrels are bad or inaccurate. hammer forging is just a fast process, but unlike button or cut rifling you dont get the attention to detail, so consistancy barrel-to-barrel varies more.

Cold hammer forging is when the barrel blank is literally pounded onto a mandrel which has the rifling "imprint" and the metal is shaped by the hammers. No heat involved. Forging usually requires the use of heat. Other methods are cut rifling, button rifling.....

I take it a remington isnt done that way, they run a cutting tool to do the rifling ? Im thinking the hammer forge is better ? Im guessing you are asking about other methods of forming the rifling.

Remington uses hammer forged rifle and shotgun barrels. Not sure if its hot or cold...
Now trying to argue what method is better...just depends. If you read my reply above and can think on your own you will start to see the benefits of each method depending on the situation.

when you go to leija barrels website they do a bore scope through a remington and show all kinds of tooling marks on the barrel, how can that be if its hammer forged. http://www.riflebarrels.com/

It all depends on the tooling used. ALL processes leave behind marks. This is only magnified by worn/damaged tooling, mandrels, cutters, improper setup, vibrations, debris, etc...Most machine marks can be removed via hand lapping or fire lapping the bore.
