I shot a turkey the last week of deer season. It was my first one ever and I don't have a desire to kill another

I have some magic beans if anyone is interested. No extra time hunting but they'll make you fart to the tune of Back In Black...

No way I would pay to hunt them, it's a bonus. Calling a big tom in is something every hunter should experience though!

calling in a turkey in the spring time and hearing him drum up close is one of the coolist things you can do in the outdoors

Only turkey I ever shot was years ago with a 30-06. Dumb kid thing to do really.

I would like to call one in this spring and do it the right way for the experience. But not for a fortune LOL.

As long as there are people out there that will pay it, they are going to charge it. No difference than lease prices, trophy hunts

Just can't get in the swing of saying "man would you look at them spurs" or "man would you look at that beard"...they all look the same to me. Wonder how they score them? confused2

glad you asked stxranchman....add up length of beard(or beards)...length of spurs....and weight of the the turkey.....and just so ya know a true turkey trophy is one one with long curved spurs regardless of what he scores...imo.....and you don't have to worry about those pesky ar's

So what does a good one score and what or who keeps the records?

I love Turkey huntin' as much as Deer huntin'. But I wouldn't pay that. We have Turkey all over our lease in the fall, but in the spring they get really tough which makes a good challenge. I love huntin' 'em, callin' 'em, and eatin' 'em. We've even had guys on our lease that hunt Turkey only. But a grand for a Turkey hunt? That seems a tad high. I don't pay that for my lease year 'round, and that includes unlimited hunting.

its the rut for turkeys....and its very similar to the rut for deer...it builds up to a peak frenzy period.... you got dominance issues...fights...some respond to hen calls ...others respond best to challenges from other toms...its a chess game....season is short and always leaves me wanting more and its the last reprive before a long hot summer.

The friend that introduced me to hunting in Texas actually had the lease for the turkey hunts and then started deer hunting. In Florida and South Georgia most leases have a completely different lease for the turkey hunters and the deer hunters. The easterns are in my area and the lease rates are still pretty high. Go to south Florida and they double or triple the rate for the osceolas. I think some of the allure with the easterns and osceolas is that they are much tougher to hunt. I know the turkeys on the Texas lease were dumber than a sack of hammers. I remember watching one that came up to the feeder fence with the rest of the flock but was too dumb to figure out how to get over the hog fence. After thirty minutes or so he finally got over. As the sun started to set, the rest of the turkeys flew off to roost on a telephone pole. The same dumb turkey ran around inside the pen and kept clucking because he could not figure out how to get out. Right at dark, he finally decided to flap his wings and go to roost. The turkeys in Georgia and Florida seem to be much tougher to hunt.

I like to call them during the Spring. But I don't care anything about shooting one. I've killed 5 or 6 and that's about enough to do me for a lifetime.

I kill a couple every year and breast them out. I have hunted around here a few times, only till I got an eastern and then that was it. I just dont get into hunting them, but if they show up early enough I will smoke a couple of them.

I will be turkey hunting private land this spring. You could never get me to pay to hunt one.

To all those who think they are a nuisance on their land. i would be more than happy to get rid of these "pests" for you free of charge!!!!!! turkey hunting is awsome, the stalk, calling, watching them strut, is pure greatness.

I agree though that 2k for a bird? redonkulous, heck more than 500-600 is crazy.
Thats why ill offer turkey pest removal service for free!! lol
