Things didn't end well for ol'doc. Just saying
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, b/c they know not victory nor defeat"- #26 TR

I'm serious, if I have a hunt to go on..I will drive 350 miles one way to retrieve one and get it back ASAP after using it.

I would have no problem leaving my "wife's" Vanguard or buying a Savage to keep here...not really losing much if it comes up missing

I do not know you, don't know if your joking or being serious, but that is a dumb thing to say. My Weatherby Vanguard Varmint special in .308 shot a little over MOA @ 100 yards with a cheap tasco scope on it. I know i can do better with it, but have to wait until February before i can get some better glass. Here she sits as of now.

don;t get me wrong, I own a VG1, and it shoots sub moa, but everything about it feels like junk. I have to get into the Mark Vs on WBYs before they quit feeling that way. Will they get the job done? Sure... would I trust one to take it on a hunt that runs a pretty penny? No. So to me that is where I stand with them.

yer feelings are psycological, the vanguard is better built than a remington, you have not been able to prove otherwise, and you wont be able to period. T

The rem does not have the structural integrity the vanguard has. The only thing the rem has on the vanguard is looks, thats it. Vanguards are a tool built to work, remingtons are like a barbie, lots of skirts to play dress up

Stupidity would be if I took it on an expensive hunt when I have all-around better rifles to choose from. Will I sit with it in a stand and expect it to shoot a feeder @ 250yds to keep the wear off some of my other expensive rifles...yes. Will, I take that VG out in the rain and hunt with it instead of one of my others...sure. That's not stupidity, that is making smart choices given the possible options.

See, my father in law takes his business associates on a dove hunt every year. And every year they show up with 1k plus over and unders and every year he gets his limits when some of the other guys don't. He uses a Stoger Condor 20ga over and under. Just because it doesn't cost as much or have some super tactical name doesn't mean someone that is proficient can't make the shots you can with your $$ rifles.

Just bought a vangard 270 Friday and took it out Saturday. at 100yrds and after only two shots it was on the money . The next three shots could be covered up with a nickel (in the bull) I love it and it could be one of the most accurate guns I have ever owned.

yer feelings are psycological, the vanguard is better built than a remington, you have not been able to prove otherwise, and you wont be able to period. T You haven't proved a thing either. I've owned more than one Vanguard and several 700's. Don't own the Vanguards anymore, had one that the crown looked like my 5 yr old had cut it, it didn't shoot worth a darn. The other shot great. The synthetic stocks are crap though. I have nothing against Vanguards or Howas (same gun) , and might own another someday. Fact is they are both good actions and good guns, each with their own attributes and faults. But to sit here and say 700's are junk and Howa/Vanguards are the greatest thing since sliced bread is complete . I've shot enough of both to know better. I guess if Vanguard/Howa were that great then custom builders would be using nothing but them, instead they use mostly 700 actions or 700 clones. Wonder why that is, hmmmm. This was started as nothing more than a trolling thread anyway just to start an arguement. Bill

it's not that they won't handle the elements...the XCRs and AWRs are designed for that. It's like putting a truck through a lot of mess just b/c you can when you have a cheaper 4wheeler/utv you can put the wear and tear on.
