Reading a diff post on how many kills did every one get this year then I read

"Wished you would have added a question.

If you did not kill a deer, how many did you pass up that you could have taken?"

And that got me thinking there was about 3 that was some what big but did not shoot due to well I don't really know why I just did not shoot.

What about the rest of y'all how many did anyone pass up on for whatever reason?

I have never pasted a deer up on anything but I have passed on a few for different reasons. Not legal, to young, lease rules, etc..etc...

I must have passed up at least a half dozen chances at taking a doe and at least one chance at taking a spike. Later I saw another spike but couldn't get off a shot.

This was my second straight season in which I didn't take a wide-racked buck. In fact, I never saw one this season. I did see at least a half-dozen young bucks that should be legal next year.

Still, it was a great season for me. I saw deer on just about every hunt, and it was a safe season for myself and everyone I know.

I passed on 2 nine points and 1 eight point. The nines were good but just young. The eight was a heavy horned mature deer but I was hoping for something bigger. Oh well, this is not my first deerless deer season. I've enjoyed every minute in the woods, but dang that north wind was brutal this morning.

I have yet to pull the trigger this year:

I probably passed on 15 bucks that would pass the 13" requirement - only one got my heart pumping (about a 17" wide mainframe 8) but deciding he was still a little young.

As far as does - I probably passed on 200. My neice/nephew took a couple of does and thus I can get meat when needed.

I've seen 5 bucks this season!!! Killed a spike but had 1 mature 10 point buck that had to pass because it would not pass the 13in AR rule!!! The others would not have made the 13in rule but were too young, 2 1/2!!!

one that makes ARs is an easy find for us... passed up quite a few meeting that minimum criteria in just a few hunts. Only one I can say I had a hard time passing up that was of age for a killin' was this one...

It would be interesting to know how much or how many times out in the field these examples represent.

I passed up atleast 12 4.5 year old bucks this year...And 1 5.5 old bucks

Can't count the number of good 3.5 year old bucks.

Counties- Oklahoma(pawnee/osage), Texas (denton,mason,brady)

I didn't shoot a buck this year..but I did pop a doe with my bow...

Did get my buddy on the 5.5 old buck.. it was his first deer.

Made my wife pass on a good upper 120's 4.5 old eight on thrusday...she still not talking to me but he busted both brows...next year he has the frame to get close to 140.

had you waited 'til he was walking away, I have no doubt she would have jumped at the opportunity.

Should have let her shoot it. If would have made her happy then that is what hunting is about. I made my wife release a bass that was 6.5 lbs because she wanted to mount it and I said no. Ten years later I still wish I would have just mounted the thing because I still hear it from time to time.

I saw somewhere around 35 - 40 different bucks this year. Here are a few of the better ones I passed on:

And this is the one I finally decided to take. 4 year old mainframe 8 with a 2 inch kicker off the back.

Silver spurs and gold tequila
keep me hanging on.

Passed on this one several times this year hoping for increase in mass as he reaches 4 1/2 years next year. Put him to bed last Sunday evening. Hope he makes it through winter weather, drought or whatever mother nature has to offer this year.

He was shot by another hunter's son the next weekend. I'd have liked to see him the next year, but he was at least 5.5, and in a good year for rain, I think this could have been his best year.

Shot a 10 point because my son was in the stand and he wanted dad to shoot the deer with the horns. However I had passed on this 8 when hunting with my wife. Wish I had taken this 8 instead of the 10....

Lets see

Passed on around 20-30 does

Passed up on 3 bucks; 2 8's and a small 10 (AR County)

The 8's were both legal but saw them within the first 15 minutes on the first morning I hunted this season. The 10 looked good but was young and the spread looked close to 13-14" so I passed. I ended up with a mainframe 8 with a 16.75" spread.
