Holy moly I had never heard of such a thing as allergic to deer hair! Does any other animal hair do this to you?

Not that I know of, cats, dogs, horses, etc don't seem to bother me, but neither did deer until the last couple yrs.

I told you tat2guy-only your wife does that to me.

I'm allergic to deer also. I hunted most of my life and never had an issue, about 10 years ago (I'm 40 btw), I shot a buck and my allergies went crazy. I mean worse than anything I had ever experienced. A blew it off as something else, the next season, the same thing happened. Now I can even set off my allergic reaction if there has been a dead deer in the back of someones truck or something like that. I use gloves, and extra caution when skinning deer. The meat is not an issue at all. I went to the doctor and he told me that he sees 10 - 12 people each year that suffer through this. It is scary, your eyes will almost swell shut, can't breath, sneezing, its rough.

My buddy has the same problem. However, he is an avid elk hunter. And elk doesnt bother him at all. Good luck with that bud

over the counter nasalcrom nasal spray worked very good, I killed a doe in archery season, skinned and quartered with very little reaction. thank goodness, will keep with me from now on

i'm thankful that i'm just allergic to cats.....and like bird dog says, the meat doesnt bother me, just the rest of them!!

I GET IT TOO. BUT FROM CATS AND DOGS TOO. THE CURE FOR ME IS ZYRTEC 1 10MG TABLET HOOKS ME UP FOR THE WEEKEND. I KNOW ITS A PAIN. GOOD LUCK

I use to get it too, but I have not shot a deer since I have been on the weekly allergy shots to know if it has cured me. Mine use to bother me at indoor rodeos also. Deer would make me swell up in the face, wheeze while breathing, my skin would blotch up, sneezing, and the worst part about it is my hands would ITCH like no other after handling the meat/hair. But it doesnt affect me if I eat it.

Hopefully the shots have cure me. I used to have very bad allergies until I started the shots. I dont remember the last time I sneezed. Im getting close to the end of my shots now, so hopefully I am cured after there completed.

Drink 2 ounces of Buck in Rut Urine. If it dont cure the allergy, it will for sure take your' mind off the symptoms !!

Man I have the same problem, especially when cleaning rutting bucks. I get hives something fierce. Best thing you can do is wear gloves and a long sleeve shirt and try not to get any hair on your skin.

You can buy the long, shoulder length (palpation) gloves to go under the shorter latex gloves. We use them sometimes when its really cold and don't want to bloody our sleaves. Can get them at any WM in the hunting section.

Sounds like your speaking from experience, I'll take your word for it and stick to the nose spray and Jack Daniels.

Worth a shot, unless you are allergic to Benadryl.
