You guys that say why not shoot a doe? Thats the reason we have so few deer in our area because everybody is shooting does cause they cant see a deer that meets ar size limits after 5yrs in place! Trophy hunting is ruining the sport of deer hunting and what its all about imo. Dont need to have a big set of antlers to stroke my ego. Most trophy hunters remind me of my clients in highland park in dallas, they dont care what it costs as long as its bigger and better than the neighbors.

![rolleyes rolleyes](/forum/images/graemlins/default/rolleyes.gif) I would rather the buck to doe ratio not be correct if it meant I could see deer again but that's selfish of me. Kinda like my buck needing to be bigger than yours but yet I don't want you shooting the younger non-trophy buck. Sorry

prolly shouldn't have given the go-ahead to shoot him, but the wife was griping about how I shot her deer and I felt obligated to let her shoot something before season ended. Plus I just wanted her to shoot the 257wby I had gotten her in an attempt to get my xcr back from her...she shot, said she liked the gun and hasn't touched it since. But not too bad, deer was run down pretty bad after chasing 100s of does. Had doe days still been going I would have just let her shoot one of the does we were basically handfeeding corn to when he stepped out. She put a 150yd neck shot on him with the 100gr tsx (one of the best bullets on the market, btw) and althought she didn't shoot for the white patch and dead centered the neck, the deer still fell in its tracks. I felt awful as the does around us ran out to smell of him and pay their last respects before coming back to their corn supply. Oh well, taxidermist got a cape out of the deal and that's basically all I was hoping for. ![](http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/davide_smith/1232215110.jpg)

What you dont know is your buck to doe ratio is probley correct now cause of it. theoretically yes, however, you have to have a decent buck population for it to matter or you'll just end up having a select # of "healthy" deer in numbers well below a given CC. If lack of deer is a problem, you generally just need to get off the trigger and readdress the situation once the population improves. For instance on one of our places 5 yrs ago you could go weeks without seeing but 1 or 2 deer. Might see 2 bucks an entire season.... turned the dang place into a wildlife refuge and got off the does and it's finally to that point where we need to start thinning a few does, but went from seeing squat to some quality deer being shot for the area.

It is preponderant to prorogue verbalising and let the citizenry surmise that you are doltish, than to disseminate and expunge all skepticism

The fact is it's because they fear the rejection and negative comments of their peers.

![confused2 confused2](/forum/images/graemlins/default/confused2.gif) I'm not near as picky on a lease vs. family land.. don't have to be proud of it, just has to meet the criteria given to me to pull the trigger.

I don't want to shoot does for meat because I'm trying to increase the over all #s of deer in the area. I'm planting food plots and feeding year round too. There are legit reasons not everyone is a trophy hunter. #1 is money. Not every one has the kind of discretionary funds to spend a lot.

If somebody posts a pic of a deer they killed then they are probably excited to have killed it. If you feel the need to criticize it because you don't consider it a big buck then stay the heck away from the keyboard because your a lowdown skunk if you make fun of their deer
The only time I would or do say anything about the size of a buck being smaller is if they say it scored a # that was obviously wrong.
