I need some education on this subject. What is the advantage to the AR compared to a Ruger .223 Ranch Rifle?
I get the impression it is only the "cool" factor but need some advice. What will one do that the other will not?
I am looking at both. #1 ARs are much more accurate. I had a Mini 14 ranch rifle at one time. #2 Parts. There are tons of parts for these guns. For less than $100, you can have enough extra parts to keep your AR running for probably as long as you live. #3 They are modular. Meaning, push 2 pins and take off your .223 upper and replace it with a 6.8 SPC, or 6.5 Grendel, or .450 Bushmaster, .458 Socom, .50 Beowulf etc. +1

For anyone with the front sight still mounted...
Does it affect your sight through the scope? What scope mounts?
I just ordered a scope, but don't know what to do about the mount... It pretty much vanishes. I recommend LaRue mounts.

one thing i haven't really seen anyone using is the front grip that can split in half and becoming a bipod... i was thinking about getting one from mako, and a magpul afg, that way i can switch around, depends on what i am doing...

I just ordered a scope, but don't know what to do about the mount... Been wondering the same thing...it sure looks like it would be in the view of the scope...

one thing i notice is, on a lot of other forum, i see people got nice ars and then they keep them in crappy looking carry bags, some pic with hard carses would be nice... Here is a picture of one of my cases. The good thing about this case, it's water proof, it floats, it can be strapped down to ATV/UTV and all my goodies are safe inside. It also has wheels on the bottom and has retractable extension handle. rolls into the shooting range real nice. http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1650

I have the Mako front grip with light and integrated bipod and I like it, it seems very well made and the bipod is fairly sturdy, not quite as sturdy as a dedicated bipod but good enough to get the job done. My only complaint is that it's about and inch longer then my previous forgrip which means it now doesn't fit in my case so I have to remove it to store it. I would not have bought it seeing how they cost $200, I paid $40 for it and can't complain. I'll post pics of it tomorrow

Does anybody have colors other then black/tan/green on their AR's? Mine is currently black/green and was thinking about changing the green to a dark red, just something different from everybody's. My Honda 400ex is all flat black and flat red and I like it, though it would look neat on an AR. I know there are a lot of different paints available now for doing such things but how do they hold up on plastic parts?

Sig 229 40cal and a 4" 1911 in 9mm. Will be putting my tac light in there soon and that will provide me everything I need to go out in the woods and chase zombies.

The smallest upper in the box is a 7" SBR upper, it is not a pistol upper. The Pelican box is a model 1650 link >>>>>> http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1650You can get them off ebay used for half the price of new. Buy used, it's the same warranty - FOREVER, if it breaks, anything breaks, cracks, anything, they fix it. Save the money and buy used. I picked this one up from ebay and paid less than half price for it.
