A suggestion... a 308 will be easier, and cheaper in every way, to become proficient with at longer ranges... before adopting a howitzer for 2 bucks per bang Not to mention rounds like the .338 edge are handload only.

ok 308 will be a likely choice for caliber. If I had a budget of 2500 to 3000 for rifle and scope, who should I consider to buy from?

308 and 175g bullets will easily bang steel at 1K all day long and the same gun can cleanly kill deer out to 500 yards
This. I killed a deer with my .308 November 12 and rang steel at 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1000 yds on December 4. Hand loads, and some factory ammo, will maintain super sonic speed out to 1000 with a .308 Win.

I couldn't be more happy with the rig, and I'm under $2000 thus far. Just something to think about. By the way when you start loading your own it'll cost you $0.43 per shot.
