These are the only two I have ever found. The top one was found in a creekbed in Rowlett (Dallas county) and the bottom one was found on a hill in Commanche County.

I found a bunch of them in the sulphur river as a kid. pretty easy to find actually. You just have to step around all the dinosaur bones. They are all over the place down there. Lots of shark teeth too.

We built a food plot along the Colorado River in Coleman County. Must have been a heavily used camp site. After ever heavy rain, I find multiple artifacts. Here are a few:

If you have a true Clovis point, you have a very EXPENSIVE point on your hands! I'd like to see it.

45 years of hunting all over Texas and I finally found ONE 2 years ago.

I knew a guy that was a fossile hunter and he had never found an arrowhead, one day while hunting fossiles he ran into a guy with a pocket full of arrow heads who said he had never found a fossile (hunting in the exact same area).

I guess it has to do with what you've trained yourself to look for... I see a lot of wild life.

These were picked up over several years while hunting various leases in Texas and also while hunting in other states. Many found in places one would not normally have thought to look. No telling how many shot opportunities at game I have screwed up because my eyes where scanning the ground instead. I once was on a lease near Eden Texas and one of the guys in the camper next to me commented about how he had never found an arrowhead. I started walking him around behind his trailer explaining what he should be looking for. Rather than looking for an actual arrowhead I told him to watch for the flint, then kick it up for a better look. Seconds after I had said that, he pointed to a little edge of flint sticking out of the dirt between some rocks and asked "like this?". And to his surprise it was the first arrowhead he ever found. It had been laying 10 ft behind his camper all along and he never knew it for all the years he had been on that lease.

I have a clovis I will try to post pic of later. Plowed fields with big creek or river on north side with medium to high bank so the sight did not flood them. If you find flint chips then points are there and would be good sight to run a sift table. And if any body has good sight I would gladdly show you what I know about finding good points

Unfortunately, its not a clovis. Looks more like a Gower point, but not certain. Those have shoulders (flare out near base) like yours, and clovis do not.

Now that would make a nice blade or large point.

That would be a well used Pedernales, and a prime example of why we find so many point's. They wear out and are replaced and discarded.

I have about ZERO luck finding anything like that but bayourat can find them as if they had a flag marking them. I have a couple pics in photobucket I will dig up & post. We also have found neat fossil shells on the lease by the lake.

Mike, my first thought was a perd too, but it sure looks like a gower I found years back, so I 'flipped a coin'. Basically some examples look just alike to me.... The Archy I asked said a lot depended on the site it was found in. Gowers are much older and less common.

It is funny how some people can find them and others can't. My wife's cousin can walk along Crystal Beach and in a matter of minutes find a couple shark teeth and I can look in the same area and not find any. She literally has probably found 1000's and I can't find a one.

The Pistol frame I found along the San Gabriel River (Williamson County) I believe it to be Remington 1878 Model. I can read Remington on the barrel. The Cylinder was found on our farm in the back pasture. There was a old homestead back in the day. I have found some older indian head pennies and legend has it that two $20.00 gold pieces were found by the well. Its a cool spot, I always check it out after we plow it and we get a good rain so much stuff comes to the top. There is a old model T burried there with just the post to the roof in view anymore. The round ball (4 pounder cannon ball) was given to me by friend that was working the Pipe line, If I remember right close to Fort Gage near Oklohoma. They said thier gieger counter kept screaming in front of the trencher and the ball was catupulted out when the trencher hit it.

A few I have found over the years. The best and biggest part of my collection was stolen while I was in college.

I think it's a Friday biface as well. Really nice piece. Interesting curve to it... The Fridays are pretty much a central TX artifact. Did this come from cenTX?

Yes sir, I found it on my place in the Oakalla area. It's about 4 1/2 inches long. Too bad the very tip of it is broke. I'm proud of it either way though.

And you should be, pieces of that quality and size are rare. There is allot of debate about blades like that and many others and the question is were they halfted and was their purpose to cut. Some seem to think that blade and others like it were designed more around the working of hides. Having made many blades in the past one thing I can tell you is they don't cut worth a damn. But where they really shine is in the fleshing of hides. I can flesh-out a hide better with a properly designed flint blade than a steel one. If cutting is your intent then nothing works better than the raw untouched edge of of a thin flake of flint. It's hader than steel and holds it's edge much longer, and when dull or damaged you just strike off another flake and keep going. We have several campsites on the big ranch along with a couple of areas where they quarried the flint. In the quarry area the ground is covered in flint where they used hammer stone's to work the larger pieces they dug out of the side of the hill. As a flint knapper one of the thing's I've noticed is the lack of any pieces of usable flint in these area's. Most is chunky and useless. When I go to the same area and use the same hammer-stones they used (this area is covered in them) I'll end up with a bunch of sharp edged thin flakes and these are the flakes that are missing in this area. Now when we go back to the campsites we find the ground to be littered in thin sharp edged flakes and this is where we find our bigger blades and most of our point's. When looking at the flakes you'll notice on many that the back side of the flake has had a little bit of work on them ( grinding or minimal pressure flaking) in an effort to remove the sharper edge. We've found a couple of undamaged blades in that area but most or broken. What the blades all have in common is pressure flaking to one side of the edge leaving a very steep angle somewhere in the 35 to 45 degree angle leaving them with a useless cutting edge but a great edge for scraping the flesh from a hide. The easiest and the handiest way to use these blades is in the unhalfted form, when I've tried to halft them in any manner it just got in the way and limited the versatility of the blade.

Just an observation.

And another observation that stands out, some of the blades were designed for a lefty!

After 23 years, I thought I had cleaned out my lease, but I found these two this year. A spear point and axe head. I got an invite to go hog hunting on a lease near Vernon this weekend. The Pease River borders one side of the lease. I plan to poke around there between hog hunts.

Cool stuff! I have a bunch at home. After looking up Clovis Point I think I have at least the start of one that's made of black obsidian. I was bow hunting elk in New Mexico and kneeled down to watch some elk and right there next to my knee was a point and scraper. It was cool to imagine that some indian knelt down there at the same spot and dropped his work. I'll see if I can find it. I found one just the other day at daugher's lease near Winters - gave it to the grandkids.

Here is what I have found at my lease over the last 10 years. Not a bunch, but I think they are awesome!
I took the one in the second photo to an arrowhead show, had it authenticated. Can't find the certificate, but they had a bunch of questions for me and finally said it was a "hybrid" made by one type of people and then found many years later by a second type of people and modified. I have no idea, just pick them up when I see them...

While walking slowly don’t look for arrowheads look for flint. Once you have trained your eyes to do this the arrowheads will be easier to find. Pickup any pieces of flint you find and inspect it. Once you’ve master the art of training your eyes for flint, you will be amazed to what you will find. If you find a worked piece of flint or arrowhead stop and mark that spot. There is a good chance there are more in the area. Once you find one I try and walk a straight line back and forth 100 long x 50 yards wide both directions. I can’t tell you how many times this has worked for me. I would also suggest slowly walking the ranch roads. Be sure the roads are made out of the natural soil of your land. Again I can’t tell you how many times this has produced for me. Also try to slowly walk the livestock and game trails. (The more the trail used the better) I have found some of my best arrowheads walking on trails. Once you find an area that is producing keep going back. It seems like I find more on every trip back to these areas.

Good Luck

One more suggestion, use the sun to your advantage flint reflects like glass. Always look towards the sun when you get a chance, I've found arrowheads that were over 100 yards away simply by their reflection.

We have found some at the Crystal City Ranch but they are very crude looking. I like to joke and say that those indians were high on Peyote when the made them.

I found this opening day of Duck season. Hope it is a sign of the rest of the season. Near this point we found a bunch of big flakes. They are all at the bottom of a large deteriorating hill, where heavy rains have pulled them into natural sluece box type ravines. We are going to dig the little "Waterfall" looking areas where the gravel is collecting. I just know we are going to find a lot more with the sifters.

Got a couple frames up at the new house. Still working on getting more up. I have my dad's collection and mine. 30+ years of surface hunting and some digging.
