We are trying to keep the hogs out of feeder pens. Looking at putting either 4 ga 32" tall hog panels or buying rolls of red brand hog wire. The red brand hog wire has a 10 ga top and bottom and 12 1/2 ga filler wire. Will the red brand be enough or do I need to use the 4 ga panels?

why round? We have just recently been over ran with hogs and it seems that the deer numbers have dropped from 8 to 10 does and 3 to 5 bucks down to 4 and 2.

With round ones bigger or dominant deer can't pin one in a corner. I use 10 16 foot ones with t post every 8 feet.

we used panels too but on the inside we had poles that attached to the top rail and angled it down so when something pushed on it, it would push it in the ground if that make sence.
Thanks, Jigfish

I would personally go with the panels. at least you will have piece of mind. They are a little pricey though.

Panels are the way to go. My pens are square and I haven't had any issues. Some bigger, some smaller. Smallest one is 16' x 16'....everything goes in there, including multiple bucks at a time. Build it however works for you...

My experience is 16 X 16 is too small. It may work but it has not for me. I like to build them at least 50 X 50. Deer don't want to feel trapped. I also build them larger so corn doesn't go outside and promote the hogs trying to get in as much. Good luck and shoot all the hogs you see, never let them walk.

Yeah, these bucks just hate sharing a 16 x 16. Big is fine...and I have them bigger, but it isn't necessary. The hogs do come around for the corn outside the pen. Shoot, we even put soured corn out there sometimes. Still, our two biggest bucks this year came off this little 16 x 16 pen... a 10 and an 11 point..

It's a D55 IR. Believe it or not, those little lights are just enough to pop hogs through a scope at night..

Wow dfwroadkill, that is awesome for you. Our first pens we did build 16X16 and we didn't see deer during the day but knew they were eating at night. We took the pens down and we had deer all over those feeders. The next year we went much larger and have had good luck every since. But awesome that it works for you because that is a much cheaper fence.

Go with the panels and bigger is always better. Keep all of the corn inside the pen and you will be better off in the long run.
