So, like countless others on this forum, I've had my share of neighbor issues. Well, I came up with an idea today that I doubt I'll actually do, but thought I'd share purely for entertainment.
A business associate of mine has been purchasing quite a bit of stressed real estate lately. One recent purchase was the site of an old retail store. In the warehouse, he found dozens of old mannequins. Most are in pretty bad shape and he will likely just throw them out.
I've got a neighbor who has a couple of feeders right on top of my fenceline with the blinds set back further in his property (long thread already about this that I don't want to rehash). No chance someone could fire at a deer under one of those feeders and the bullit not cross onto my property.
So, an idea popped in my head. I could take a few of those mannequins out to my place and stand them up next to the fence (which puts them next to the feeder). Or maybe just put them in the trees a few feet back?
Okay, it's not something I'll actually do, but I can't keep the smile off my face when I think about the idea. If I was going to do anything at all, I'd put a really cheap blind right on my side of the fence with a mannequin inside.

I would do it and put the dummy about 10 yards into your property put like two per feeder. But thats just me.

Well if someone shoots one, at least you have them for shooting over fence line/property line.

I'd do that for sure and maybe set up a hidden game cam, or two, in case they want to do something to your set up.

A painted milk jug with a wig hanging in blind will do a pretty job of making people wonder who/what is in the blind.

I think it's a great idea. You could also move them around from the morning to evening and then also paint a black stick as well for a makeshift gun. If you want to take it to the next level you can also stop by the nearest pro cuts and ask them for some hair and you could throw that around your mannequins.

If these folks hadn't already basically ruined the hunting on that side of my property, I'd probably do it. They shot so much the first two weeks of the season, the deer just aren't crossing their property anymore. Unfortunately, they were able to harvest at least 3 (though I fear more based on my trail cams) legal, yet very young bucks.
The main thing that attracted deer to that area was a stock tank that has no gone dry. The feeder I have near there is usually very active, but has only 40 pictures in the last month (usually averages 175+ per week).
I think I will save them for next year. I tried to be as nice as possible to these folks, but they just won't listen and seemingly don't care that they're firing into my property.

I would do it.
I lived near a RR track growing up and a buddy made a dummy and put it in a rocking chair on the tracks. It is true that trains take about a mile to stop.

Any way to rig one of the mannequins up with a remote speaker/mic, so that it can talk soothingly(for instance.. like Sam Kinison), with a pre-recorded message, to the deer as they approach?
