themadcow nailed it

Do you want a long or short action. I prefer short actions so I shoot a 7mm-08 and 300 WSM. Both the 7 Mag and 300 WSM will get the job done. The performance of one over the other isn't really relevant. Get the one you "like" best for your own reasons.

Good Hunting!

I've owned Win70's in both the 7mag and now the 300wsm. Finding ammo isn't a problem for either cartridge, but for the person who said there's no difference in felt recoil, I'll have to disagree. I can put multiple boxes down the tube with the .300 and not even care. Wish I could say the same bout the old 7mag. She was a PITA at the range. For the performance you get, the WSM's kick like a pellet gun. I wouldn't trade my .300wsm back for my 7mag any day. However, financially speaking, trading a vanguard for a ruger m77, you're getting the better end of the deal.

I would have to agree with the 300wsm being the winner here hands down, I think the 300wsm is the most versital round out there.

you have bullets from 150-200gr and you can get ammo for it any where now, I have never been to walmart and not seen the ammo on the shelf. Or any other ammo retailer for that matter.

The action is shorter and makes for a more compact rifle that is lighter and easier to carry.

I also agree that the 7mm kicks MORE than the 300wsm

With a 300wsm you are good to go for anything in north america and its flat out hard to beat.

I have owned 2 7mags and sold them both and while I am full up on deer rifles for the moment when I get a new one it will be a ....
