Do most of you guys try and hunt everyday during the holidays (during time off) or do you use the time to spend strictly (100%) with family? I had this discussion with my wife and would be interested to see what people's input would be on this. My wife seems to think that since I do hunt a lot during the season (weekends, vacation days, etc.) that during the holidays (i.e. Christmas and Thanksgiving) that I should spend every waking moment with family and not hunt at all (even if I am up and back before she gets up). I tend to think the decision to hunt or not depends a lot on the situation during the holidays (relatives in town, travel time to holiday destination, how much hunting you get in during the season during non-holiday times, etc)

Anyways....chime in a let me know what your thoughts are on the topic.

If youre up and back before she ever gets up, why is she complaining? I think it's a good time to hunt, because it allows you to get away from the drama.

100% of time around the family just causes undue stress.

I wish I could be hunting or with family. Instead I'll be patrolling the streets.

Well, before marriage, hunt.

After marriage, hunt for a way to get out of the house to hunt.

I get Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off for Thanksgiving. I hunt Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

I get two weeks off for Christmas. I hunt every morning except Christmas day, and I try to get an evening hunt in grin

We do a little of both but that is mostly because of my work schedule being out of town so much. There has been a few times that we have had Thanksgiving at Deer Camp and it turned out very nice-I had a very nice camper out there before-now I have a very nice lease camper-not near as nice as the previous one but not a rat hole either. Not all situations are the same. We just try and adapt to each as far as visiting company and family goes. We do hunt a lot over the holidays when we can because my time with the kids is also limited because of my work schedule. Hope that all can be happy and it is a very good way to develop some fun memories and great bonds with your kids and family either way because you are together-hunting or not but I'd rather be hunting. : >

I guess I got it made. My two sons hunt and my wife goes along. She sits with one of the boys while I take the other. Not only that, but we stay at the in-laws and hunt across town. So were all together and kids get to visit G'parents all at the same time!! My biggest problem is the kids want to go hunting every weekend! We do take T'giving and X-mas day off and spend non-hunting time together.

Same here. Be safe, brother.

I hunt as a business so I'm probably the wrong guy to ask. I chose to spend my non-work time this weekend with family. I hunted every day from Friday through Tuesday. I refused to book for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday before work (Friday night). My guiding partner has a hunt on Saturday. I'd say a mix of both is a good thing.

Very true. I got to go hunt this year, but I know I will have to pay for it in the near future. Actually, with all the transaction alert emails I received on our credit card, I think I have already paid for it mad

Mornings are fair game on both Thanksgiving and Christmas day but evenings are usually frowned upon by the fairer sex.

I hunt every day of the season that I can... holidays, vacation days and weekends.
I'm never home for even x-mas eve, or day.

But then I'm single! (maybe that's why...)

It is always a struggle to get away and hunt. Any weekend or holiday she wants me under foot. When family comes around is when I "most" want to get away...I do think Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are off limits and should be for family. Then, I'm ready for a few days away!

I go to Bone Daddy's for the burgers....yeah, that's why.

This pretty much breaks it down for me

Single: Hunt Holidays, Birthdays, Weddings, Days Off etc...

Engaged: Hunt Days offs, Hunt Morning of Holidays and days after

Married: Hunt Days off, Hunt Days after Holidays only

Married(and expecting 1st child): Negotiate Hunting days

I love spending time with my family on the holidays. And I hunt around that. I hunted yesterday , thanksgiving day, and most of the week. My girls made it home last night. Thanksgiving with family today. Hunt tomorrow with SIL...By then the girls will be glad to see us go!

Get the wife to hunt and do both! My whole family hunts, so we go out and spend some quality time in the field. It is the best of both worlds.

x2, the menfolk go hunt on Thursday morning b/c even in my early years of marriage realize the kitchen is a grouchy place during holidays. Return just in time to get the turkey frier going and the bird finished.....after Thanksgiving meal #1, leave to have meal #2 with the inlaws and then around 3-3:30ish, it is once again time to get away from the grouchy kitchen since all the dishes are now piled up. Family bonding time occurs around lunchtime and usually consists of a nap while a football game is on the tube on the other days. whistle

Grew up hunting Thanksgiving morning. Never got to hunt that much as a kid for deer.

Now it was agreed upon Thanksgiving morning is as important as Sunday services. Almost had the Pastor and his boys with me this year, he is wearing down the better half and daughter so perhaps next year it will be a done deal. Always back by noon.
