You have to keep in mind the whole principal behind base layer is activity and not retaining sweat close to your skin.... if you drive to your blind its hard to beat mr buddy heater....if you bow hunt or spend time spot in stalk the light weight principal and wicker properties of base layer can't be beat .....

Rifleman- 2011 base layer tin foil ...and it works awsome half the bulk of any thing out and even warmer!!!!!! Also got to try the new electronic stuff....trust me its awsome but very pricey

I left a nice comment earlier about if the new gear was going to have instructions on it like, "put light base layer on, wrap self in tinfoil then put on second light base layer", but then retracted it....dangit!! How hvy is the electronic stuff...FIL is looking for some real lightweight gear to go on one of those 75lb limit fly in sheep hunts.

No technology in the world is better the free!!!! If he has his ends i'd go with that....the new base layer is awsome, to me the electric is more for sitting cuz your looking at 6 hour run time....makes good sense in ski jackets and backyard hunting easy to recharge ....but true remote hunting just don't know...

I know this man....he will wear 10 layers of clothes on the plane and hunting boots so it doesn't cut into his weight limit.

I wear UNderArmour cold gear.... then a longsleeve t-shirt (cotton) on cold days, or a wool shirt on COLDASHECK days, Riggs cargo pants no matter what, and then either a hoodie and light jacket on cold days, or bibs and a parka on COLDASheck days...

Other cold tricks if you are stationary...

Loosen your boots.... tight restricts circulation, which is how you stay warm...

I don't wear big coats or bibs walking in to hunt, rather bundle them and pack them in, so I am not wet and sweaty when I get there, and I don't put them on till I get cold...

Hot Hands warmers.... place them inside gloves on the inside of your wrists....warms your hands and your blood...

Your head, most heat loss goes through your head... I love the gore-tex caps with ear flaps that go inside from Cabelas... warm without getting wet, and water resistant outside in...

I've tried a lot of them. When sitting still, it's hard to stay warm.
About 25 years ago I bought a set of Damart for an elk hunt. It's expensive but nothing comes close to it, even after 25 years. By now, the elastic in the pants has stretched out even more than I have. However, last Monday morning, at 20 degrees, I was comfortable. Damart, then pants and shirt, next a vest that covers the small of my back and then coveralls. Felt pacs on my feet. Mask with eyes, nose and mouth holes and I'm just fine.

I can even skip the coveralls and wear an insulated Carhart chore coat.

You can't wear Damart if you are out prowling around or you will get too hot. That says a lot. However, I found out a long time ago about the folly of trying to walk up on deer in the brush. If you don't believe it, buy a set of Walker game ears.

Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley, Rancher Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP
