If you had $1000 to go buy a new hunting rifle not including scope for deer hunting and possibly Colorado hunt next year what would you buy? Brand model? Caliber? Why? Thanks for helping with my next project

I would probably buy another Remington 700 5R in either 223 or the 300wm since I have the .308 version.
NOTE: Just reread and saw you were going to Colorado. I would opt for the Remington 700 5R 300wm or the .308.

remington 700 bdl 7mm ultra mag,long shot ballistics good and knock down power is great.

7mm ultra mag is great if your going to Colorado,but almost a little to much for the little whitetails in my neck of the woods.308 is a very good round.

What's the difference is recoil and ballistics for 300 win mag and 300 wsm?

I would go with a Browning A Bolt with a Boss system in a 270 caliber. I have killed some big mule deer as well as large whitetail out to 300 yards and never had a problem. This caliber fits in very well in any state all you need to do is adjust your grain for the animal you will be hunting.

Ruger M77 MKII in stainless synthetic in a 270wsm. Try it and you will love it. And for sure lighter than a wood stocked gun. Weather resistant as well.

If you buy the Ultra Mag and I would! I would get the 300!! It has the widest load range and you can hunt anything with that gun!

X1000000000!!! This is my favorite caliber in the world with the 257 WBY runnin a close second. I would shoot an elephant with my 264. It is the deadliest rifle I have ever owned! I have probably shot 30 animals with it and have yet to have ANYTHING take a step. Even big hogs at 500 yards! The fall like they got hit by a freight train!
