Ok my property resides within the boundries of the Simms Creek Wildlife management properties but were not members. We dont own the land, what would we need to do to become members, what are the benefits of becoming members?? I hunted a few years on a ranch that was in the SIMMS CREEK WMA, until the ranch was sold! You would become a MLD ranch and the level would be set by the TPWD biologist. Being in a MLD program would extend your hunting season, but it also requires certain things on your part such as night surveys of the deer on your ranch, record keeping for all deer being killed, and attend Association meetings. If I recall, there were the La Paloma Ranch and the Hog Foot Ranch that were members, both ranches are off FM 572 just before you get to Moline. I don't recall the biologist's name, but he used to be based in Hamilton. Here is the SIMMS CREEK link: http://simmscreekwma.org/Try to contact Warren "Bull" Blesh who lives in Goldthwaite. He is the current president and is a personal friend of mine, also owns the RRR TROPHY RANCH and has an insurance company in Brownwood.

I should be around the 18th & 19th as well. I'll also be there tomorrow through Sunday if anyone in the area wants to meet up and discuss setting up a WMA.

What's the deal with buzzard lady? Anyone know? Boy I got some stories about that family for you. My Grandfather had the place next to her, and he could tell you some stuff that would make you scratch your head. Right now, I think its her sister that lives there, not sure. TxAggie, looks like we wont get to meet after all this year, we had to sell the land back in August. If you hear of any leases down there then let me know. I need to find one for next year or my boys will be hunting me down. And to peacock, the goat farmer Stillwell was my grandfather, he is no longer with us and the land owner is the Carr's. Good family and they have a bunch of land down there. Good luck to all of you, I hunted down there for 36 years, it is being missed right now by all of my family. Keep us posted on the results down in Caradan this year.

We only duck hunt after Christmas. Same family owns a chunk of ground on the coast between Victoria and Goliad, borders on the Guadalupe river. you can actually look at google earth near the town of Tivoli and see the string of duck ponds they have.

So are you on the high fence side of the highway ?
We really hated it when my Dad sold the house that is on the pond behind the buzzard lady. I used to love going out on the back porch and watching the woods come to life.
Buzzard lady. I used see her walking through the trees feeding the deer. She would actually bang something together and the deer would come out of the woodworks and form a single line straight to her. It was kind of neat to watch it. I was told that she would get meat scraps from the butcher and feed those to the buzzards which is how she got her nick name.
She never would sell to my grandfather. The rumor has it the land will be left to some animal society after the family is gone and I am not sure how many are left. She always hated hunters, but was nice enough to let us recover game if we needed to. Her land is like a funnel for game. I saw some the biggest deer in my life on her land.
Good times down there, just wish we were still there.

We are the high fence! It only runs down the road, not all the way around the place. I've seen your Dad's house, nice place. Sorry you lost it.

I didnt think the fence went all the way around, but wasnt sure.
It hasnt been a good year and loosing all of the land was just one more thing to add to the list.
Good luck to you this year.
