i never would have figured him to figure that out at only 6 weeks old. but he is a lab, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

I like to make sure they have plenty of things to chew on other than me.

he really REALLY likes his new goose toy. the biting has gone down drasticly just since last night. but the way he attacks it, i swear he was supposed to be a cat. its funny how he'll stalk it from the end table to the middle of the floor, then right as he gets up on it, he pounces on it

every once in awhile i can get him to sit and wait while i throw it. then he'll look at me, i'll tell him to fetch it up, and he takes off and gets it.

Tie that potty training to a command. I have several dogs that will pee on command. My command is "Potty Outside." That way, we get that mess out of the way soon as we get out of the truck when we're headed somewhere. Oh, and I can get away with saying "potty"... socially acceptable for females! lol.

When my daughter was 3 she named our golden puppy heifer.
We had been at a FFA show and I had explained the difference to her between the steers and heifers. When we got the new puppy the only question she asked before naming it was" Is it a boy or a girl?"

well he finally has the potty thing down. if he's out of his crate, he'll run to the door, sit down and bark till we take him out. if he's in his crate, he'll whimper till we let him out. even then, he runs straight to the door and barks. he's only pee'd in his kennel twice. once when we first brought him home, then again yesterday. but yesterday, he was in his kennel for a few hours before either of us got home to let him out

don't call bs. carli knows what she's doing. not all dogs are dumb. i am sorry however, that it took mo more then a year to finally to lift his leg to pee. don't be jealous. beaux is all about pleasing us.

just to clear things up a bit:

The girl who had him for a week before we got him had started crate training him already, so we just picked up where she left off. He still has accidents in the house, but for the most part we take him out every hour, right after we take him out of his crate, and right after he eats or drinks to avoid that. Yes, he has gone to the door and barked to go out so go potty, he knows that when he goes outside to potty he gets a treat, its positive association.... We say "get the bird Beaux" to associate the phrase with the action because he already has the instinct to fetch the toy and we are working on bringing it back and dropping it, but being a 6 week old puppy he just wants to play and pick up every toy, leaf, rock, piece of trash and anything he can get to. He aims to please, and we are taking advantage of that and working with him daily. Carli only works about 30 hours a week so she spends most of the day working with him. If you find the right Doggy daycare it can be great for them, the doggy daycare my wife worked at had several hunting dogs that boarded and went to doggy daycare on a regular basis, it is just a chance for them to romp, wrestle and get out all of their energy so they are kept busy and don't have a chance to be destructive, but you have to find the right daycare for your dog.
