I am about to buy new tires for my 87 bronco that I use on the lease and want to get something that is very durable. We hunt in the hill country and most of the roads are covered with jagged rocks. We also have to cross a river and sometimes have to deal with some pretty slick hills coming out of the river. Anyone have any suggestions for a tire that they have used with success in this type of terrain? Looking for durability. Nothing worse than getting up early only to find a flat tire! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just put some BF Goodrich AT's on my Tahoe. My third set of these (diff. vehicles) and they work great.

Open Country Mud-terrains, I have "E" rated 35x12.5x20's on a Ram 1500. Great tire, I have 40k on them and still have easily another 5k on them. My truck is a daily driver, with a LOT of highway miles. Cons: price, heavy, Pros: Looks, Very durable, toughest side walls out there. Will stand up to cactus, rocks, mud, snow, gravel, whatever. Highly recommend! My second choice would be a Nitto Mud grappler: a little cheaper (not much!)slightly lighter.

If you're gonna get the mud grappler then you might as well get a swamper...they wear like crap on the street and most people don't get but maybe 20k miles out of them. They do look awesome though...

BF Goodrich A/T is an excellent tire that kind of terrain, but they may get slick coming outta the creek, we used those in Leaky and they were awesome

Swampers do not last, great in mud, decent on rocks, but as said above..20k max. BFG's a/t's go out of round when 4-wheeled hard, go flat easily. Trust me, toyo open country M/T's, you wont be disapointed! But save your pennies, you'll need'em. Mine are $400+ea. However if you have 18" or smaller rims, the price comes way down! Enough that I am thinking of ditching my 20's for 18's, the differnce in the price will almost pay for 1-2 new wheels.

If you want durable, find a tire that is load rated "E", that will be a 10 ply tire, and those with the extra tread part way down the side give you a little more forgiveness on the rock cuts. Alot of the mud tires out there are big and mean looking, but lack in the thickness area. I used to run the Toyo Open Countrys on our fleet at work, and when the moved their plant to China from Japan, the tires suffered quality. We noticed a difference, and my tire supplier wont even sell them anymore. I have had good luck with the Good Year M/T's and just put a set of the BFG M/T's on my truck, and they seem pretty good.

all terrains get ate up in rocks, same thing with BF mud terrains. had both and both got flats they get sliced up and get flats pretty easy.
I like my toyo's 10 ply, they seem to be more slice resistant.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Need more pics of it, is it finished yet? I'm working on a highline and front and rear tube fenders for my Jeep, then some 33 inch boggers

PowerKings ! I believe they are actually trailer tires but they have held up awesome as farm as flats and mesquites etc. They are on my jeep at the lease. You could call BP in Garland and asked what is on that landcruiser or whatever it is as you come in the door. Same thing as I have. They were cheap to

BFG ATs
If the slick hills at the river crossing are like I am thinking there's not a tire made that is going to help much. 4x4, a good run at it, and lots of right pedal.

Like others have said get a range E tire, they are tough. Past that I dont see you noticing much difference. How bad is the stuff you drive in, are we talking a rock/gravel bottom creek or a mudd hole that will swallow up a stock 4X4 truck. Playing is one thing and it is fun, but what you need to get the job done is mostly very differnt.
At our place it doesnt matter what kind of tires you have as long as they dont mind thorns are round and you have 4X4, sand is a pain.
My cousin has a set of BFG mudd terains, look like good tires, has 30K on them and they have never been in the mudd though. Still have lots of tread left.
Key to tire life is proper inflation and rotation.

Check out Nitto. They have several tread designs. I have run Terra Grapplers on my truck for the last 3 years. Got 40000 on the first set and put some new ones on last month.

I was not impressed with the Nitto Terra Grapplers. Had them on my last truck and they did not perform in the mud very well. My tire of choice is the BF Goodrich A/T, but I like it due to performance on and off the road. We hunt near San Angelo and they held up on the rocks. I also run those on my CJ-7.

The BFG A/T's don't perform very well in mud in my opinion...not big enough voids in the tread.
Is this a bronco that STAYS on the lease and never sees pavement, or is it something that you may drive a couple of hours to get there?
If it stays at the lease, then you won't find a better tire out there mud wise than a super swamper...except for the thornbirds, they are crap. If you need to drive it there on the pavement, then you might wanna look at the bfg M/T's, Goodyear MT?R's, or maybe the mud terrains offered by toyo or kumho. The nitto terra grapplers get good mileage out of them, but you'll wanna stay away from the mud grappler if you're looking for mileage. Also, unless pro comp has changed in the past couple of years, their tires wear fast too and will cup like crazy if you're alignment is off.

For strictly off roading I like the BF Goodrich Mud Terrain but for the best all around tire for the road as well I like the BF Goodrich All Terrains.

It stays on the lease during the season, but I'd like to bring it home in the off-season. The rocky terrain is probably more of a concern to me than the mud. I would say that durability (rocks, thorns, etc.) is more of concern to me than performance in the mud because there are only a couple of areas that I have to contend with mud. However, I have to deal with rocks and thorns everywhere.

Anyone had any experience with Hankook tires? Had a guy recommend their MT tire. Supposedly solid tire that is relatively affordable. Thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I just installed my second set of BFG A/T KO's Load Range E. I got 40,000 out of the first set with probably 5000-8000 still left on the old set.
I tow a heavy boat and a travel trailer quite often. I run the rocky hills of the hill country, the thorny brush country of South Texas and the Padre Island Nat. Seashore on a regular basis.
When in the rocks and thorns I run them at about 70psi. Makes them stand up taller and resist punctures. I've never had a flat with these tires. In the sand I air them down to about 20psi. I've never had a cut sidewall.
Otherwise I've kept them properly inflated and rotate them every 7000 miles. When this current set wears out I'll get a third set.
Good tires.

Is 40K considered good to get out of a tire?
Im not going to be happy unless I get more than 60k. Dad and brother are running Bridgestone deasert dueler A/t's and have over 50k with more tread left, have been happy with the tires. I am running stock bfg's open country's i think on my dodge and have no problems yet.
