Well Dallas, the question in the thread was which would you prefer. Based upon my own experience, and until that experience changes, I'd pick the AK for SHTF reliability. That choice might well change if I found myself in a combat situation, armed with a current variant of the AR platform, but when it comes to entrusting my life to something, someone else's opinion, video, or experiences is going to take second place to my own. Just like I would trust the men with whom I served, more than someone I didn't personally know. No amount of testimonials will measure up to actually having served with someone who had proved they had your back. Same applies to the weapon, IMO. Others' experiences, mileage, and personal choices may vary, and I've got no problem with that.

I thought this forum was about hunting and firearms? Not beer drinking! Part of hunting is camp. What happens in camp stays in camp.

I carried and used an M16 when I was in the Air Force, I own an AR now, and I also own an AK. The AR is a very effective weapon, reliable if you do your part. Can be scary accurate if properly equipped, fed and the operator is up to the task. The AK is at best a 300 meter weapon, but that's all it was ever meant to be..that and to be reliable in a multitude of conditions, inexpensive and simple to manufacture and maintain. Not the most accurate weapon ever made, but for it's intended purpose minute of man is generally good enough. As a battlefield tool, the AK is hard to argue with. Russia and several other countries still rely on the AK platform. One can have a blast building, outfitting and shooting either one. I like 'em both.

This will involve submerged in water, mud, sand, jello, motor oil, drag behind the car test...ect and see who's survives the longest with a wide variety of ammo. Ok sounds good, and we will also have an accuracy contest, we will engage targets, some moving at unknown distances. This will provide a realistic real world comparision as well. (unknown distances are what makes you a good shooter, my 6 year old cousin can go to the shooting range and tear up the center of the target while rested on a bench) Even with my dust cover open, no dirt will get beyond the outside of the bolt. By accident I left one AR out with dust cover open when they drywalled my cabin, my gun was solid white after the day was done. But none got inside the gun, and it cleaned itself after first shot. Can I eat the jello afterwards or make jello shots with it?

Let me know the time and place, I will gladly bring a AR-15 or another gun to add to the comparison.

I have a couple of decent cameras that we could film with. This would be a ton of fun.

Yeah I'm down for everything but the dragging thing, that does nothing to simulate anything.
Mud, Dirt, Water, Any AMMO, Jello ??? Not sure why but whatever.

Accuracy is fine as long as energy is calculated too. Like witch one does more damage to a 4x4 and CMU block... ect

No the finish on them sucks enough as is, they don't need any abrasive help. HAHA I'll bring the 556 if somebody wants but my plan is AR-15 unless the barrel is gone by then, give you a hint it involves ATF Form 1.
