i'm tired of my cameras having 75% pig pics on them. we have feeder pens with regular barb wire to keep the cows out, can i just attach some hog wire around the fence posts and keep the pigs out? or would they just tear it up to get in there?

+1 Or better yet, 4' hog panels set a foot in the ground. On rocky ground cut a panel in half and lay it flat on the ground make an inverted T with another panel. Pile some loose rocks on the bottom panel. You might also consider running a hot wire on the bottom of your existing fence. Alternate hot and ground wires as close as the tabs on your t-posts will allow. Hogs don't really seem to notice a hot wire if you depend on their feet to ground them, but you get two wires on their snout they will take notice. Just my ww

Ditch the barb wire and invest in Hog Panels. Your deer activity will go through the roof.
Hogs will still come and eat around the pins.

You can always try and report back, but in my experience hogs will root under or push though wire fencing - even no-climb horse wire. They don't even blink at field fence.

Again the deer at my stand have increased 10 fold by keeping hogs out. A flimsy fence will be pushed right through or rooted under. However if you like hunting hogs keep what you got. Just dont expect to see so many deer.

Hog panel is 34" tall, real hog panel that is. It comes in either 8' or 16' lengths. Yes, you can attach it to your posts and it will work just fine. I have never had hogs dig under it or push it in....maybe that is why they call it hog panel. Now, cattle panel or that lighter weight roll stuff, that's a different story...

I have a feeder enclosed with (13) 16' hog panels. Never had a hog or cow get in for over eight yrs or so. The only things that ever made it in were deer, rabbits, raccoons and (1) javelina until this past week. Now I don't know what to do, I can not get her to leave and the deer quite coming as frequently. [img:center] [/img] Steve

Go with the hog panel, they will destroy the hog wire very quickly

be sure to drive your t-post a little further down in the ground if you put cattle panels or hog panels..and use good wire to wrap it to the post..I had a issue where i didnt use enough post and the cows pushed one panel in..also t-post your feeder..also place a mineral block or two away from your feeder to get the cattle away from the area...it works..

I have 3 feeders that I need to put hog panels around. I have limited funds and was wondering what the least number of hog panels that I would need is. Could I get by with 6 16' panels at each feeder, or is that not enough? Also, what about the shape, do they need to be round or can it have corners?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have one that uses four 16' panels in a square. The deer go in and out everyday with no issues. Have for 2 years. A bigger pen is nice, but not absolutely necessary.

We use 8-10 16' x 3' panels and always cut the t-post to make it more inviting

How do you cut the t posts and how do you go about making the circle be the right size for your number of hog panels??

I love it when people ask a question then don't like the answers they get! Ok so here's the way it works... Yes you can put hog wire around it and yes it will work until the hogs get in, and then you can fix the place where they got in and it will work until they get in again, and you can fix that and after you get tired of all that you can get some hog or cattle panels and fix it right and then in a year or two when someone asks this question YOU can say.... "USE HOG PANELS!"

How do you cut the t posts and how do you go about making the circle be the right size for your number of hog panels?? When I took up hunting they told me there was no math involved. Just layout your panels as you see fit. However... For me it took 3 t-posts per 1 panel. My pin is 6 panels. So I needed 12 t-posts. Putting a t-post in the middle of the panel will make it stronger in the event hogs or cows try to push up on them. Also you might consider a gate to pull your truck up to to fill feeders. In this cae you might need to cut a panel in half.

Say Cowdog, are your panels 16' long and does 6 make a pretty good size pen? I might could afford 8 panels per pen if really necessary, but I need 3 pens. Also, you said you use 3 tposts per panel, wouldn't that be 18 for 6 panels or are you not counting the post in the middle when you said 12?

How do you cut the t posts and how do you go about making the circle be the right size for your number of hog panels?? Drive 1 tee post, wire panel to it, walk to the other end, bow the panel until it makes about 1/4 of the circle, drive a post and go back and drive one for the middle of the panel. Add 3 more panels and you're done. The more panels the better but 4 is probably big enough (especially if they're only 3' tall) you can always go back and make them bigger when you have more money to spend.
