410 for fox squirrels and 12ga with high brass 6's for cat squirrels.

Cat squirrel = gray squirrel? Why the bigger gauge for the smaller squirrel?

I like to be able to reach out to them, before they ignite the rocket in their azz. Fox squirrels you can get up on, and they are much slower.

I use my Granddad's Stevens 62F field grade in 20 gauge with high brass #6s. I love it. On the rare occasion we have some hickory nuts, I will sit and wait with my Marlin 880 SS in .22 mag. You must shoot them in the head or risk pulling them apart when cleaning them. On a side note, we have about 9 to 1 cat squirrels to fox squirrels.

Eat=rly season an Ivery Johnson Champion that my Great Grandfather gave me when 3 years old. Later after the leaves fall, a Remingtom 552 Speedmaster with short hollow points if I want a scoped gun, sans scope it is a Winchester 62A with same ammo. I do not squirrel hunt much these days but when I do I like to use the guns of my youth squirrel hunting in Mississippi

I use a Marlin Semi .22 and 3x9 tasco scope, ammo..CCI long rifle hollow points. I've taken lots of bushy tails with my gun.
