[quote=aeb]Ran out of time and didn't get a protein feeder up at this site. Left the corn feeder running to use up my corn supply. Ten reasons why to fence Eastland County feeders.

My grandson saw the pictures of the pigs that I posted above. Asked his mother if those were some more of Granddad's pets?

More like pests. grin

Almost done with the hunt this a.m. Saw 5 fawns and 4 does. They all hit the feeder and food plot. No rain either, just windy and humid. No bucks.

The good news is I have everything set up and ready to go. The bad news is I didn't see much. We have a lot of oaks on the property and I think they are just staying close to what's around them at this point. Moon wasn't helping this past weekend either. Have a good number of rubs throughout the property and fresh tracks from the rain indicate there are plenty of them around. Hoping I get to see a couple in two weeks.

We ened up killing 2 bucks this weekend. The deer were still moving, just not at the blinds I sat in. The deer are in pre-rut for sure. Even saw a few injured bucks(I didn't but my brother did) The only buck I saw this weekend was a dink 8 on Sunday morning and a decent buck outside the fence at one of the feeders. A ton of acorns hit the ground this weekend from the winds.

Sat out last night and every buck I saw was chasing. From a 5.5 year old down to the young bucks.

Good luck to all that are hunting Eastland Co. Have fun, be safe, and hope you get the one you're looking for.

Any update from this weekend. we had a lot of does, a couple of spikes and a nice large 8 my FIL didn't take because he was worried about getting out of where he was hunting (a different story for another time), another younger 8 and a young 9 all Saturday morning. Sat evening was a bit slower (the younger 8 showed again) and Sunday morning was nothing. Full disclosure - LF without plots or feeders. What are your thoughts on why they didn't show Sunday? Could it be from all the gun shots? Seems like that has happened the last couple of opening days. Didn't see much chasing, but the 9 did turn and come towards a grunt call.

Friday evening the deer were running good and chasing. Saturday morning deer were still chasing and our hunter killed a 150" 10 pointer. Saturday evening the chasing slowed and I saw 10 does, 3 fawns and 2 bucks. The big buck was a wide 8 and he was chasing when he showed up which was 30 minutes before dark. Sunday morning we saw about 7 does and 3 bucks. Not much chasing. Activity was really slow. The warmer weather has slowed the movement I think.

Sat out on Friday evening(outside the fence) and saw 0. Saturday morning I saw 2 does and 1 fawn(inside). Shot one of the does. Saturday evening I saw 1-2.5 year old 8 that went to corn, and that was it.

My dad sat at the other (outside) feeder and saw 0 on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning he bust a hog on a 10 acre food plot. After he shot the hog, he saw 6 does/fawns, 2- 10 pointers and a small 8. He said the 10's were sparring a little but not really fighting. Saturday afternoon, he saw 1 doe with 2 fawns at dark right when I was picking him up.

The deer still aren't moving at all. Our place is so thick with acorn trees, the deer don't have to move. And its too thick to try and hunt inside the thickets.

I was surprised the 2 does and fawn went to corn on Saturday morning. I dropped the deer off at Rust on Saturday afternoon and I only saw a few deer hanging. I think the rut is over and we are just needing some cold weather. Rain would also be nice. My food plots are almost nonexistent. We have only had 1 rain on them since we planted. Its been a tough year for sure.

Thats what I have heard as well. I'll be heading out shortly myself to try and find a doe/pig/coyote to shoot.

Good Luck

Looks like things may have changed. I'm checking game cam pics right now and the hogs and deer are hitting the feeders. There was no corn piled up under any of the feeders

My hunters have not had much to brag about this year but I continue to see good deer as I move about the ranch. Saw a real taker chasing after a doe this morning. He had something else on his mind because he darned near ran over me. He better get over it or he will be in the back of someones pickup by Christmas.

Sat out on a 10 acre food plot tonight. The feeder was empty, which I didn't know at the time. Ended up seeing 14 does/fawns and 5 bucks. Biggest was a mid 150s 12 pointer. The deer weren't chasing but were checking fawns. Had 2 coyotes come out at around 350-400 yards. They started to stalk the deer, so I let some lead fly. Don't know if I connected, will check in the morning.

Went to the lease today 7 miles west of ranger. Saw nothing. Checked the cam and had not a single picture either. Last time I checked the cam was the 5th and had a picture of me putting the card back and and one from today taking it out. I will et to hunt a few more times before the end of the season and hope I see something.

One of the guys on our lease reported that the corn that has been piled up under the feeders at least a couple of weeks ago is pretty much gone now... So something is hitting the feeders again he's gonna check cam tonight
I'm going back out new years eve staying for 4 days

Well the deer are definitely hitting the corn and food plots heavy again. I saw more deer in one sitting Saturday evening than I've ever seen on my place. Then Sunday morning I didn't see a thing because of the moon I guess.

Saw lots of movement last weekend, mostly does. Sunday morning was slower than Saturday. Saw a couple of young bucks hanging together Sat evening. Hoping it gets colder this week and I can head back after the weekend. Neighbors got a nice 11 a couple of weeks ago.
