Saw a few on highlines this morning, still raining here now so not a lot of movement. I am thinking if it clears late it will be a good evening/morning. If it clears before lunch, I think there will be scattered birds all afternoon and not a flurry of activity any one time.

Tomorrow morning looks good.

Saw two groups on the 6acre lake this morning but didn't stop to visit; Someone is stuck on the road to the 14 acre lake, what an idiot... it rained all night, and they decide to drive in on an uphill dirt road for a half mile.... that will make landowners happy...

Make sure you finish breakfast, have another cup of coffee and check on a few other things before you head over to pull them out Vernon! Let 'em think about it for a while!

Yeah, figure they went on to hunt, then will want help later...

I don't ever mind pulling someone out that made an honest mistake, but geez when you have to splash through water and its still raining to get to an uphill dirt road.... that ain't real smart...

that is true....

Had hunters that spent the morning in the rain and didn't see birds, then said the High lines were about to break with them around noon, then not much this evening, rain/front has them screwed up... I am going out early tomorrow, hope they are there... but I have to spend the bulk of the day cleaning the shop...

went last sunday morning. Saw maybe 4-5 while in the field...didn't shoot. Then saw like 3 on a power line about .5 miles south of where I had been sitting. Might go this afternoon.

Does anyone know if there are any fields that aren't plowed under? It seems like they bailed all of the cut fields and then plowed what was left under really early this year...plus some of the bigger fields look like they were out of rotation and not planted.

There was virtually none laid out this year...
Don't give up on a field cause it's plowed, the birds will still be there when passing through...

Had mixed results from fair to fantastic from this morning... I am hoping for a big evening

Yes we've had enough cold to send our wimpy birds south but it hasn't gotten cold enough up north to chase them out yet.

Exactly... there were a bunch out yesterday, too bad I was too busy to hunt...

Butterbean would look at the hi-line wire full of dove, then look at me like "Well?"

I am going tomorrow night with a friend. Taking our 5 year olds. PM me if you have any tips on where to go. We have no idea where to go. He has only been to the Leonard field and didn't see squat.

Went to DJ tonight and nothing. Saw a few near Vernon's shop but that was it. Heard only a few shots and took 4 shots at two lonely dove way off. Kids had fun hunting for corn stalks. Some of the fields are completely plowed with nothing left.

If you can find a planted wheat field where the wheat has not germinated yet they can be hot. I know there was wheat in the Wolfe City area last year not sure about this year. Vernon might know where they are planting.

The bulk of what's plowed now will be wheat ground, some is planted now some is not.

Don't let the "plowed. nothing left" get to overpowering. There's still ample seeds and feed there for birds. It's lack of birds that is hurting us now, not the fields, in my opinion.

When we get another wave of birds, they have to eat here somewhere.

Be careful hunting at 816 & 4850. My boy built a trophy pile of corn cobs and then watered them under the telephone pole. grin There were birds feeding in that field about 6:30 last night.

The cold fronts we have had already have brought the big dove thru west texas, not sure why you haven't seen them here.
