Anybody having any luck on any of these fields? I went up to Sanger yesterday and it was slow. 90% of the birds I saw were whitewings. Killed 5 with 1 mourning in the mix.

That's not a bad hunt for a public field considering the weather we have had and the opening week hunt pressure on them. Many of the guys on the season dove lease I am on did not do that well with opening day private land.

Hi John. Thanks for the reply, just to clarify this is a season lease also. I sure hope this season improves with the northern migration, sure has been slow for the most part. Good luck.

I'm with DFWHunt as well. It's been real slow all over. Me and my party went to Stephenville for the opener. Between the 7 of us we got 2 birds and saw maybe ten total in the field (#26). Where your at (#'s 12 and 13) seem to be some of the more consistant fields in the standard package. That being said, I've spent the majority of my hunts on Krum #2. Had good luck on one evening and managed 12 birds, but it must have been a fluke because I've been bringing home only singles and doubles since. (11 hunts - 19 birds in freezer). I've heard some decent things about the eastland fields, but I have yet to make the trip to check out the hunting.

Best of luck.

Thanks. North of Eastland was pretty good on opening day, south of Gordon was slow on the 5th. I haven't tried Carbon yet, maybe this week. When they start moving down from the north things should really improve, these fields look too good to not draw 'em in. Good luck.

Agreed. They all LOOK great, there just aren't any birds. It's quite depressing when I get calls from my buddies back home in west Texas and they're all talking about their 20-30 minute limits. Guess I need to go home for a while until they come out this way.

Oops, not familiar with DFWhunt. Just know there are a lot of Public hunt permit fields toward that direction. But like is being said, between the wet weather and lack of cool weather to push birds down, things are probably that way for a lot of hunters in those areas.

I am also a part of the DFWHUNT group, managed to do really well the 1st and 2nd in fields 12 and 13 in the North area. Did go hunt Stephenville opening weekend with very little luck. Since have been to the north fields a few times with a few birds here and there. Fields all look great, I just think the weather has messed them up alittle. Hopefully when we get a good cold front we will see more birds.

I did see 7 or 8 flocks of whitewings of about 15-20 birds apiece, but they were out of range. We might be just on the verge of the migration starting up. I hope so.

Most leases are good the first week and then slow way down. Sometimes for the whole season from my experience on one up north of Dallas. Out west is better since that is where the migrate but hopefully in October some will come. But when they do come you have about 2 days to hunt them b/c word gets out and then that field is shot up again and they move on.

Have y'all hunted here in the past few years and ever do any good after the first week?

I've been to every field in all of the areas and it has been horribly slow. I scouted these fields for a few weeks prior to the season and I saw alot of birds everywhere, but they all left and most of them left when the weather changed as the season opened. I think the combination of weather changing and lots of hunting pressure the first few days ran out the local birds. The only hope is that some real arctic front will bring some more birds down here later. It has been disappointing so far. I hunted the same fields last year and it was pretty good, but there are no sunflowers in the field west of Carbon like there was last year and like they have advertised on the website. That was a great field late last year, I doubt it will hold any birds this year because it is nothing more than a weed patch. The key to later season hunting is sunflower fields, because the milo fields have already been cut and rained on alot, the standing sunflowers will start to drop more seeds as the weather cools off, but the only fields with sunflowers are the fields around Huckaby and the one North of Eastland. None of the North fields have any sunflowers, they all show sunflowers on the maps but that isnt the case, there is a huge oil drilling rig on one of the fields that is labeled sunflowers....

North #2 has a big sunflower patch between the two bailed up dove-weed fields. It sucks tho because, unlike what it says on the maps, the combo lock is a key lock so you cant get in on that side and there's an irrigation canal running through the middle of the field that makes it impossible to cross (in my truck anyways, hell, i busted my butt just walkin aross it). I've been really bummed out with this so far. If you ask for a scouting report from them they seem to send you in the wrong direction too. But if it;s slow everywhere I guess there's nowhere really to go.

The scouting reports that they post on-line are more like instructions for hunting not a scouting report. And I have emailed and called the guys in charge but they never respond... It has been disappointing to say the least so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will get better but the season is slipping away a little more each day..

I have been really pleased with the hunting organization actually. I have called and spoke with Richard, and Patrick which are fairly easy to get ahold of and had been very nice and gave great advice. Remeber guys this is hunting lease not a guide service.

I was in field 3 early in the morning with my boys. About 9am some Yayhoo in the next field over (not part of the lease) starts shooting everything he/she has and it wasn't shotguns. He must have unloaded 100 rounds of differing calibers. I couldn't seem him and had no idea if we were down range or not. He didn't stop even after we shot at some "phantom" doves so we moved along (we shot away from him and into field #3). Oh, we only saw 2 doves that came over really high in the 2+ hours we sat there.

We then went over to field #1 by Krum, mostly just to scout it. I think we will go back there in the future, but it seems we will need a weather change to bring in some birds.

Hunted #13 on Sunday morning. Saw only a couple of birds the entire morning (6:45 to 9:30). It was completely dead.

I hunted fields in all three areas opening week. The milo field in Sanger was the only producer and that was on opening day. We hunted all areas in the standard southwest area on Saturday morning of the opening week with very little success. I talked to several locals who said that it was good opening day but all the birds were gone by the weekend. We hunted fields in the West area Saturday evening of opening week with very little success also, three hunters with three birds all afternoon. There just don't seem to be any birds out west. You can drive through the area without seeing any birds on the high wires on on any of the many sunflower fields. All of the birds in Sanger were white wings from town out feeding.

I got 4 at #2 this morning. All mourning dove. Saw 3 birds this evening, only shot at one and missed. Watched one go straight for another hunter and he got 2 shots off at hit. Hopefully he got it.
