I am bound and determined to get the food plot to grow regardless of mother natures cooperation. Has anyone ever tried a trash pump or similar to irrigate? Tractor Supply has a 6HP, 9480GPH, 2" "semi trash" pump. I have an abundant supply of water bordering the plot and 5 acres to irrigate. Think a setup like this might work, am I overlooking something? I figured a big sprinkler head or homemade pvc multi head I could move around. I may not be thinking this out far enough. Thanks

You would need a pressure type pump that is similar to a trash pump and they sell them also. I have seen a system that a guy had that was 7 spinklers on 2" gasketed pipe that was easy to set up and move. I do not remember the oriface size of the sprinklers though. If it is level you might consider just flood irrigation.

yep it will work. I used a homemade pvc system similiar to what you described. 5 acres is a lot to irrigate however.

Yeah, I figure it will be an all weekend affair to water, but I am pretty determined to make it work. I hate staring at all that water just going "what if". Thanks for the input guys!

I may not take that long. It just depends on how much water you want to apply and then how many gallons your pump can put out thru the sprinkler heads. A 2" high pressure pump will put out in the range of 130 gallons/minute + or - at 50 to 60 PSI. More expensive pumps will put out more. You might search online I have seen a system forsale before online but can not remember just where.

have you thought about a Kifco Water-Reel - they do a heck of a job and can be equipped with a pump ...

1.5 inch lawn irrigation pump, drilled holes in 6 ft section of 1.5 inch pvc, attached flex hose to foot valve and then to pump, can run 6 sprinkler head (40 psi) off the pump. Have regular garden hose attached to sprinkler head so I can move them, have had system 5 years, does a good job for me... texas

That Kifco is nice. I am thinking though more along the lines of a Cheapo Water Deal. Thanks for the heads up though. Gary, your's sounds like what I am planning on getting started on this weekend. Thanks all.
