Thinking about pulling the trigger on an ar-15 and I was leaning towards cabelas because I have a 150.00 off coupon I could use.Are their prices competitive to other places and do they have a good selection to choose from?

I agree the BCM products and website is really good. I bought a MI handguard and BCM charging handle from that company for my AR platfform and they have served me well. They cater to the AR 15 crowd with some really nice gear.

Isnt Spikes the one that tripled there prices after the presidential election? No. They were one of teh only ones that DID NOT triple there prices and continued to actually get their product to their customers in a timelly manner... They actually made it a point to not get all wound up in the "obama scar"....

Dont know where you got that info but they definately uninformed. Some smaller guys dont carry Spikes because there isnt a big profit margin and you can get their stuff directly from Spikes sometimes cheaper than what gun shops can sell them for. Spikes is known in the AR comunity for having excellent gear at reasonable prices. If you havent already , check out ar15com you will soon see this is what they are known for. When people were wanting $200+ for run of teh mill lowers Spikes was selling them at the some price they were before the big scar.

Go with Bravo Company. BCM complete rifles start at $1000+ and I do not believe they are any better then what Cabela's has for a lot less. One of the last ads they had brand new DPMS for $649. That is cheaper then you can build it for. If you have $150 off I would go with Cabela's. PLUS if you find it cheaper they will match the price so you can still use your $150...

Um , might want to check your pricing there chopped. BCM rifles can be had for less than that and they have huge sales going on right now. Not to mention DPMS and most other brands Cabelas and BPS sell arent even in teh same ball park as BCM...

I have seen a number of AR's on this forum that were pretty good deals if interested in a used gun- just my two cents

You can get a complete BCM lower for around $350 (this isnt really what BCM is well know for and you can find the same quality lowers for much cheaper) a upper for under $400 and a BCG for $140, for a grand total of $890 if you go with the BCM lower. Not one brand AR you mentioned above is of teh same quality as BCM or Spikes. Ive posted this several times but it kind of gives you a break down of specs for several brands. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p...amp;output=html

I have owned or used most of them at one point or another and teh only ones I can think of (besides the smaller custom shops) that I havent worked on would be Larue and Wilson, mainly because they come from the factory with every bell and whistle avalible !! Im sure I missed some though. In the last year or two I have worked on and or built well over 100 ARs so Ive had teh opertunity to see the quality of just about all of the ones on teh market. All that being said I mainly use rifles that I have built from the ground up for whatever its is Im going to use it for. For the $$ my faavorite factory rifles or uppers and lowers would be BCM and Spikes. Not that there is anything wrong with some of teh brands Cabelas or BPS sells its just that when you go with ST or BCM your getting a far superior weapon for teh same money. If I had to pick a favorite and if money wasnt an issue Id have one of Noveskes Leonidas !! Video in action ! http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imc...ce=&status=

That noveske looks nice. What about Ross Precision. My son(9) wants an AR to use for plinking. And Im leaning toward another AR platform rifle in different cal other than 6.8 and 5.56. What about the new DD AR?

DPMS and Bushmaster aren't even close. Comparing the Ruger SR-556 and the Sig 556 to a direct impingement AR variant is in error. It's an apples to oranges comparison. Quality components make a quality AR. Bushmaster and DPMS cut corners on things like stock tubes, bolt carriers, non-tested bolts etc. Most of the bargain guns from DPMS are not chrome lined. Look at the specs.

I think what was being pointed out is that you have no experience with a product that you made a comparison to. Like I have said time and time again , there isnt anything wrong with most of the ARs you can buy form Cabelas or BPS but there are others out there that are superior and if you dont belive this then you havent done enough homework. There are big differences between the rifles. Im not trying to be rude or a prick but this is kind of what it boils down to. Bushmaster isnt known for there great fit and finish so if you feel your BILs is of higher quality than your ST you need to get ahold of them and they will get you taken care of ! What model ST do you have and how much coin did you drop ?? This post was made before you deleted yours Chopped

This post was made before you deleted yours Chopped I deleted mine because I saw he edited his with a response below the quote. I can not start to say I am an expert on the AR, far from it. The actual complete Spikes I have is just their ST-15. I have built a few rifles off of Spikes lowers back when MGS had them for $125 in the Infidel and Punisher engraved lowers. I love the lowers, and what I would use if building again.... And for the record I knew you were not being a prick, neither was I, and admit that I got schooled.....

I really wasnt trying to be a prik or school anyone and Im far from an expert, I still learn thing I dint know aout all the time . Seriously though you need to contact Spikes if your not %100 happy with your rifle. It should be at teh very least up to par with Bushy when it comes to fit and finish and from my experience better.

It was loose, accuwedge fixed that. Headspace was off when I got it, reguaged and fixed that. Spring would hang in buffer tube. Replaced with Magpul, fixed that. For the sake of Spikes the gun was bought used off another forum. Honestly my old Spikes lower with Model 1 upper was a better feeling gun then my Spikes....
