dumb question here but I have to ask- when you hunt hogs with dogs, you don't use pit bulls? I have always hated that breed and have avoided dog hog hunts based on the belief that the hunters were running pit bulls. I have to check on this catahoula breed I ahve never heard of them before

What he said. Catahoulas were breed to hunt hogs. They are INSANE!! And I say that in a good way. Everyone I talked too said they would never own another type of dog again in their life and I understand now where they are coming from. Highly, highly intellegent and will protect you and the people you associate with the most to the death.

mine (the first one brindal one) he is half pit half catahoulas, i have had many pits and hunted with pits alot. pit bulls arent mean right from birth, just like any dog ya raise em the way ya want them. i didnt start this thread to talk down pit bulls they are amazing aniamals.

These are just a few of our dogs and about the bulldogs I wouldnt trust anything but a bulldog to hold a hog like this one

that or they could have just got done running after the big one and he is sucked up, ya know that happens with dogs humans horses really anything that runs

yeah a huntin dog is hard to keep fat and ideally you dont want them fat but in case you were wondering he does get fed everyday and has been wormed. Yeah black betty is always ready we got her a couple of years ago from the pound and she was scheduled to be put down the next day

ya pits dont last long in the pound but like i said i have had a few i rescued and they were some dam good dogs even with little kids

Oh yeah I have gotten 3 from the pound and all have turned out great! Good catch dogs and aint had one yet to fight another dog

found a stray red nose pit in 2009 and she's awesome. I had a question... I've never been hog hunting, but my dog likes to ankle bite my other dog while they are playing, she gets up behind her and just grabs her leg all the time... Is this maybe cause she was a catch dog? She's harmless, doesn't bark or get mean... so I dunno if she might just be doing it out of instinct or what

Yea Nichols is right.Probally just playing cause i dont know many catch dogs that live long catching any where but ear or many hogdoggers that will tolerate one catching anywhere but ears.

I have 3 of them and it just how you raise them up i have some rilly game dog
