kinda had the same thing happening on my place in west texas. one morning when i heard the food steps i fired off a flare gun and scared the s@@@ out of the guy. havent had the problem again. i think the idea of him not knowing i was there or were i was and the light of the flare did the trick.

I had a little issue with spotlighters on my dad's farm in Arkansas back in the early '70s. We knew who they were and called them and warned them not to come back. They were rude in their response. The next conversation was with the game warden who was also a good friend and advised him of my plan.

I dug a pit on a power line right of way where I could observe traffic on the road through the property. I took my "stand" about two weekends after the initial conversation and they came spotlighting the pastures about 11:00PM the first night. I put a round of 22-250 into their radiator and my dad called the game warden when he heard my shot. Nice "trail" of water to an overheated pickup!

The judge busted their a**.

Crimeny! The cops don't have this much detailed intel before a drug raid. We hunt a family ranch north of Lampasas, and would hear someone driving along the county road adjacent to the property. Their lights were off, but they would spotlight deer that crossed the road and jumped the fence. This always happened before dawn, during the season. We knew it was not locals, because everyone living around there have hunting spots and would never take a chance on getting caught by a neighbor. One of our guys sat under a big cedar bush, near the road, and the truck came by about 5:00 am. The truck stopped and he could see the spotlight shining into the woods, and he heard voices as the guys talked. All he did was fire one round from his 308 into the ground. The truck left, and we never had the problem again.

If you are close to poachers and you know where they are, fire a round and scare them off.

What ever you do don't fire off another, just one! Even if they are armed and want to return fire, they won't know exactly what direction it came from, and they will get out of there.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

When I was in college in Louisiana, a Game Warden was out with his spot light on looking for some dudes who were duck hunting after hours. He had a warning shot thrown his way by a land owner thinking he was a poacher. The land owner almost went to prison, was placed on probation, and lost all of his guns and hunting rights.

Just saying this, as a warning it could easily happen to all you guys wanting to shoot radiators and do warning shots.

Maybe the Game Warden shouldn't be on private property without notifying the land owner. (If that was the case)

Game Wardens have access to thermal. Some of their stuff is a little outdated, but it will sure show if people are on your land. Since you have one hunting with you....Problem solved.

Assuming the problem was real to begin with, sure.

Whats the diffrence between these guys and and someone breaking into your house? Take care of it...call the LAW... plain and simple.

Quit beating around the bush and making cuckoo noises at each other...

When ever I see some one on my lease (not even my property) I walk up to them and ask who they are...

I have come across many poachers...They have one goal...To kill a deer quickly and quietly...the first sight of a human they split!

Beleive it or not the game warden caught one guy last year spot lighting on our land, he asked the guy what was he doing, the guy said spot lighting for deer. The guy did not have a gun so the game warden could not do anything but tell him to quit. It was deer season! Some people are so dumb.

I also hunt Lampasas Co. and have had numerous confrontations with the locals trespassing and poaching. In each case it was either the kid that lived down the road in the hot rod 4x4 truck tearing up the ponds, or a volunteer firefighter caught poaching an 8 pointer, and even a city cop using the road to our camp to sneak a midnight rendezvous with his 'girlfriend' (amazing nobody got shot in that confrontation).

Once the word got out we weren't going to tolerate the silliness, the problems stopped.

So why didn't you solve the problem there? Two armed men on your private property? Exercise your Castle Doctrine rights!
