I didn't read all of the above posts but I did notice a lot of talk about feeders. i hunt Palo Pinto County--closer to Santo though. I am not all that impressed with the feeders out there. Two years ago, we had deer coming to the feeders--mainly young bucks and does. But the past two years there was been so much browse that they didn't come to feeders with any regularity. I didn't even hunt a feeder one time this season. However, we have about 12-15 acres in winter food plots (5 plots total) that they absolutely love. These were a mixture of wheat, rye, and peas. Although it is more work and expense than a feeder, that's for sure what I would do.

That's funny you mention food plots...The landowner planted two fields of oats or wheat??? Something??? Couldn't tell you what????I saw one deer on it all season and that was with a flashlight going to my stand...The best place to see deer was up on the top of the hills where this little red and green clover grew...
It's really hard to ascertain the deer pop. there...The terrain is excellent with a variety of characteristics...Plenty of standing and running water, hills, cropland, and tall stands of timber..Not to mention thick impenetrable cedar...We just didn't see a whole lot of deer...Hogs??? YES!!!!! Turkey??? YES!!!!!
I'd be willing to admit shortcomings in tactics but I've been hunting for 20 of my 30 years and I can't say I've seen anything like it before...Every hunter on the place did not see deer...Maybe I'm just spoiled...I'd see twelve deer in one hunt in Llano and that many in one day in Zephyr...Drive 15 minutes West and deer are thick...I guess it's one buck for a reason...
Thanks guys for all the feedback...I'll be checking my trail cams to see if anything changes and may have better news here in the next couple of weeks....Like anything it will require some work...
