Man this thing is taking off! I know the Wards, Crystal and Chance and am glad to see the popularity this site is creating. They will be at the San Antonio Hunters Expo this weekend if anyone wants to meet em. Good people in my book.

Beautiful ladies...awesome dogs...hunting hogs....that's a recipe for success right there up . Love that video where that hog just waits for that dog and then tosses him like a rag doll. My pit has gotten into it with a couple hogs....he gets hurt in some way every time, but I swear he loves to jump on hogs more than anything in the world.

I really don't want to stir the pot but as a fellow hunter on a hunting website why would two people put on the same thread that they would want to kill someones dogs? I have a hard time believing you would read something as ignorant as that in the Gun Dog section.

You don't want to "stir the pot," but then you call me ignorant? Hmmm....

First, this is in the open discussion forum, not the dog section, so perhaps attention to detail is in order for starters.

Next, while we may disagree, it is an opinion formed from observation of those videos and others like it.

I like dogs, and hunting dogs. I had labs through my life that I trained.

My problem is with how these dogs have been trained and the manner in which they are used.

It is an ongoing problem with dogs, regardless of breed, which are trained to fight, attack, chase and maul.

Pitbulls seem to cause a disproportionate share of problems, but they certainly are not the only ones.

There are some very good dogs, and then some like the dogs in the video that have been turned into dangerous animals. So, yes, if you want to hunt a dangerous animal, the dog pack is far more dangerous than a feral pig.

Turning a pack of dogs loose to chase and maul an animal whether a pig or a deer is, in my personal view, unacceptably cruel to the animal being chased and mauled. The hunter bears ultimate responsibility for turning these dogs into what I see on those videos and how they are put to use. Just because the hunters are good looking does not make it acceptable conduct. That is my personal view.

I hope you are open-minded and informed enough to be able to consider another person's view, even if you do not agree with it.

Regards,

Jeff

I believe attention to detail is in order, as I said the comment was ignorant, nothing about the person making the comment. I can appreciate anyone's opionion and while I don't agree with your point of view I can't help but see the difference in what I know to be the truth and what you have formed a "quick" opinion about. I am not going to fight with you over it but to say the "dogs in the video that have been turned into dangerous animals"...."the dog pack is far more dangerous than a feral pig" is laugable. I just wish I could take a person like you hunting with the open mind you have and show you how small kids under the age of 5 handle every one of these dogs on a daily basis and how nothing is getting "mauled". The look of the hunters has nothing to do with my acceptance of the sport and even less with coming out and saying you would rather shoot someones dogs. The danger lies in the mind of the uneducated....

I'll get off my soap box now =)

Really? How many people are the victim of unprovoked attacks by feral pigs vs. pitbulls and/or fighting dogs?

ETA for clarification - I would not want to kill anyone's dog or pet. The comment I agreed with came from the Hunts That Don't Interest You Thread. Between the two, that was a view with which I agreed. But no, I would not want to kill anyone's dog or pet, unless it was posing an imminent threat of serious injury, which unfortunately does occur with fighting dogs, and which I have yet to see occur with a feral pig.

That is a little subjective dont you think? How do you lump pit bulls and cur dogs both of which who have been bred and used for a LONG time in this country to bay and catch hogs and cattle with to some back alley trash like dog fighting. Seems like a pretty far stretch to me. If you want to get right down to it German Shepherds and weeine dogs are responsible for more unprovoked attacks than pitbulls. Irresponsible dog owners create the problems that we see on the 5 oclock news....

And I still have a hard time finding the correlation between unprovoked attacks by fighting dogs and wanting to shoot a mans hunting dogs....surely you see a difference between the two???

I agree with you 100%. That is the core of my complaint. See my comments above.

I'll leave it at that.

Good luck this season.

Jeff

It's really obvious to me that the people that say they would rather kill the dogs because they are dangerous animals, have never been hog hunting with dogs. I have been hog hunting with dogs multiple times and it is laughable that you think hog dogs are dangerous to humans. When well trained like most hog dogs are, they are no danger at all to a human and kids can pet them with no problem.

And it is obvious to me that you have never been attacked by a dog, without provocation. It is not laughable to be on the receiving end.

Nope but this was about hog dogs and I do have experience with them, and know they aren't dangerous. If we were talking about normal dogs kept in peoples backyard then it's a different story

How are ya'll doing! My wife is one of the hdl girls!!
These girls are fun loveing and love there animals better than most do there house dogs!!

They feed top of the line feeds every dog has a self feeder and self warter that gets cleaned every day!! Christy the tall burnett stops and gets her dog trigger a sonic hot dog all the time!!I tell everyone when he barks in back of the truck we must have passed a sonic!!

These girls do not like dogs that tear up hogs when the dog bites he is not allowed to tear just grip!!

Most hogs are casterated and released for the deer hunters that want a good meat hog they bob the tail so the deer hunters can see it from the deer stand and the meat is good!!

They are pretty women but they are women who make the sport look good!!

There goal is to show the world it is not as bad as people let it out to be!!

The dogs are exposed to hunting but gentics trains them!!It is just breed in them to do what they do!!

The same dogs these girls hunt with have to work cattle for a liveing!!They drive cattle one day and the next day find hogs!
Not every dog can do just that my wife has used these same dogs to catch baby chicks on the ranch and never break a feather!!

If you watch the movie old yeller the story was wrote about a cur dog!!Made for rough stock!!

If any of you have ever talked to these girls you would see a whole diffent side of the dogging world!!We hunt as a family my 4 year old being the youngest!! It is way different than any other hunting you can talk and cut up while you hunt the kids can play and never get borred!!You don't have to ga back to the camp and tell your story everyone on the hunt got to see the hunt!!

My 12 year old was reading this and she said why would someone want to kill our dogs!! I explained to her that I think he was useing it to get his point across he don't like doggin!!
That is fine if you don't like doggin just say it but please don't say you would rather kill the dog!!

What I have read this is a family site and remember that family does read it!!

My little girl love fourms to read!! I will not let her become a member because people do not she is a 12 year old!!

Crystal my wife the one in the middle of the picture in the blue!! Would love to talk dogs to anyone and hunting!!!
She hunts gators, frogs, and just about anything out there!!
When we meet she was an advid duck hunter useing her lab!!
She love to hunt sqruiels with her rat terriers!!
She can train anything she is awesome with animals her horse will bow, count and lay down so she can get on!!
