I have several of the ones made by Atascosa Wildlife. They are expensive but worth every penny.I very seldom hunt out of a blind though.

A couple years back, Dad cooked up an idea for a "lifetime" stand for his retirement property, I of course jumped on board, and we set about getting it built. It took us about a year and a half of fiddling with it on weekends (maybe once a month) to get the first one done, he's got plans for 2 more. It's fully welded 1½" 14ga square tubing framing, with a ¾" marine grade plywood floor, Hardiboard siding, Lexan windows, and R-panel roof. He's going to finish it with some synthetic stucco before deer season starts this year. The base is from a previous stand, it's about 3' tall, and 2x2x¼" angle iron. The floor footprint is 4' x 8' Click the thumbnails:

This is an all metal blind (except for the floor) I bought from a friend for $200 and then put about $150 into it replacing the floor, insulation and building all new windows.

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I have a 4x4 blind made with 2x4s and OSB. The windows have fold down plywood shutters on the outside, with plexiglass inserts on the inside. All windows and doors have gutters above them to keep out the rain. The roof is corrugated vinyl, like you put on porches or carports. Plenty roomy, with carpet, shelves, blind buddy in the corner, hooks for backpacks, even a peep hole to check out the back door. Top it off with a comfy old office chair and there you have it. I have a nice wooded knoll to put my blind on the ground, so I don't have to worry about putting it up off the ground on a stand.

You can't see what the blind is facing, can you?

still, you could see more if that blind was on the ground. In my opinion tower blinds are only good in very low brush situations, mostly west Texas and some of south Texas

true if there isn't a whole lot of underbrush in the "woods". That would mean climbing stands would be useless in the world of hunting.

I understand, people hate it when Im right, I know I know. Do what you please, It aint my blind. But just maybe, others will understand and build blind heights to terrain conditions not just for the cool factor.

So I guess in an open hay pasture I should have a stand on the ground?

So I guess in an open hay pasture I should have a stand on the ground? wouldnt matter unless theres trees near you, then I would want to see under the trees, bucks could hang up on the edge and not venture into the field till dark, why lose an opportunity that might arive.

Because if you did, you would know that unless you are hunting giraffes, the probability of being winded is much lower the higher up you are.

The outdoor channell is full of blithering idiots. I do know a little about wind. Lets be clear a hog can smell 50 times better than deer. I just killed one at 20 yds, with a bow, and a ciggarette hanging out of my mouth, oh and a beer can next to me, oh sitting on a chair with no blind, oh and not a thread of camo, and yes free ranging.
You guys act like these animals are smart, maybe, but I am a helluva a lot smarter. When hunting I make things happen, I dont wait for things to happen. I always outsmart my prey.
