I've got the itch for a new bow. I haven't shot since I got married, so mine is terribly out of date. It was pretty cutting edge when I got it, and I hunted with it for quite a few years

A few guys I work with bowhunt almost exclusively and let me fiddle with their bow and it got me excited about shooting again

1987 Jennings bow with a Magnesium riser and wood limbs, 27" draw length with a 2" overdraw. It's either 42 or 44" A to A. I'll snap a pic of it in the next couple of days

I had an old Bear takedown recurve that I shot for years, and was ready to step up. I mowed yards year round, and saved up enough to buy my first compound bow (I was 12 or 13). I read magazines and picked up brochures to research the newest and shiniest (Al Gore hadn't invented the internet at that time) Mom took me over to Trophy Archery over off Old Granbury Road and they fit me to this one, and really treated me right (to date, I've never been in a more friendly shop, sadly, they're long gone)

I shot it for years, every day after school my brother and I would shoot in the back yard until after dark (I hung lights at the corner of the house so we could shoot at night) hunted with it, and competed in several local 3D tournaments. I took it with me to college, where I continued to shoot (there was an archery range!) and got a job working for a fella that had a cabinet shop, and did just enough archery work for him and his buddies to maintain a small archery shop. I'd build cabinets during the day, and we'd shoot out of the back of the shop in the evenings as well (he had a big lot, and 3D targets out to 60 or so yards) I'd build arrows and set up new bows or do some tuning when cabinet work was slow. It was a great job, and my boss was pretty great to work for.

I continued to shoot up until about the time I started courting my wife, and probably haven't shot more than once or twice since my daughter was born in 2002.

The ground quiver is something that my grandfather came up with. He was a tireless tinkerer, and put several of these together for folks once he cooked up the idea, and had the right scrap material laying around. A quick coat of rattle can and a A-Number 1 quiver is born.

About the target, can I even buy a new core for that style anymore, or should I just pony up for a modern bag style?

I also need to pick up a new wrist strap for my release, I put it on, and it left a bunch of crud on my wrist.

I plan to take the bow to a shop to have it looked over by a pro before I start shooting it again, just to make sure it's safe.

Not sure about the target but your story about how you got into archery was great, thanks for sharing.

Not sure the year on it but it's a Matthews Feathermax, around 12 years old. Thanks to Jerry, she's back in tune and shooting new arrows faster than ever.
