I've hunted both, and I love the cover in East Texas, but I like the bigger deer in West Texas. Huh? What part of east and west texas are you hunting. Those little guys out west cant hold a candle the east texas deer. Our average buck dresses over 140 lbs and we dont protein feed. it goes both ways.. i been on East TX Ranches where their mature bucks live wieght average over 190lbs.. and I seen several 200lb deer come out of west texas. Again its about the ranch and how its managed LF, HF doesn't matter. I imagine we have a cpl that flirt with 200lbs on the hoof. Would have to shoot one early in the season before they get interested in the womenfolk, but it's amazing how much weight they can put back on.

Sure you have more then a couple that would flirt with 200 : )

you're probably right, but drawing them out of that thick mess on the larger property is hard to do. Those big jokers go on super duper lock down mode and could care less about food until ML season...which is why there is no longer a ML season.

Not to hijack the thread, but what do you guys consider East Texas and West Texas? West TX starts where the oaks stop.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

east of 45---east TX
west of 35-west TX
south of 10 south texas
between 45 and 35 central tx
south of 10 from houston to CC- costal plains
From childress straight across west- panhandle
all this in my opinion. But you ask a west tx guy and you will for sure get the same awnser Hwy gave you

Sorry, BOBO, but I gotta disagree. By your definition, the "Golden Triangle" of deer hunting in the Brush Country (Dimmit, Maverick, Lasalle, Webb, etc) would be west TX. And Fredericksburg/Kerrville/Bandera would be west TX. The Brush Country is not considered west Texas where I grew up and neither is the Hill Country.
