hartz flea and tic around your ankles. I would not do that. Seen 2 guys get sick as hell doing that on Fort Hood when we where doing some field exercise. They warned us not to put them against your skin. They work by putting poison in to your blood stream.

Repel Permanone Clothing and Gear Insect Repellent Found out about this stuff from an uncle of mine that cruises timber for a large timber company, he said it was the best tick and chigger stuff he has ever used. I have been using this for several years and have never had a tick or chigger when wearing clothing treated with it. Treat your cloths, let it dry and it works through at least 2 washings. Works pretty good for mosquitos also. http://www.repel.com/ProductCategories/SpecialtyProducts/Permanone/

I have a coworker friend who was a sniper in the marine corp and he said that alot of the guys used pantyhose. He said that they will still try to get on you but the pantyhose makes for easy removal if they are on you. Id still go with the deet and other tactics because i dont know bout you but i dont want those little blood suckers even trying to get on me just throwing that out there. He said they used that so that you wouldnt have the smelly off or whatever on you

I wear long pants tucked into my socks. Long sleeve shirt tucked into my pants. Then spray either 100 deet around my ankles, beltline, wristlines, and neckline to keep them out of my clothes. If its a button up shirt...spray a little around your button line . I will spray my hat with a little deet too to keep them out of my hair. Careful with the deet though..your not really supposed to spray it right on you. Its more for your clothes.
It seems to work pretty good. Ive hunted some areas infested with ticks too and got home and found none on my body. Be sure to pull your clothes off before you go in your house and wash them in hot water to kill any ticks you may still have on your clothes. Ive made the mistake before and found those little boogers crawling around my house.
We used sulpher as a kid too, but i dont even know where to get it these days. Any ideas?

Grew up in SE Oklahoma, tick country. Still go fishin' and turkey huntin' down there and have always used deet covered clothes and sulphur around the boots with good success. If it's cool enough, a tight fitting base layer is a huge plus (panty hose, bug skinz, under armour). If it's too warm for all that, just gotta decide if it's worth it. Shot a big gobbler the end of April, on a 92 degree day, in SE Oklahoma this year and had literally dozens of ticks crawlin' up my legs and on my bare arms,(had on short sleeves), as I sat motionless for over 30 minutes but a 25 lb., 11 1/4" beard and 1 3/4" spurred thunderchicken was worth it to me. Frontline seems to work good on my dog but I haven't tried that route yet! LOL

Last summer we had a MAJOR tick infestion in my house. I know what you're thinking but we are dang clean people and so are our pets. Anyway I tried numerous products you buy at petsmart, wal-mart and even resorted to a local place that sells commerical strength stuff to regular folks. All that garbage did was poison my house and force my wife and kids to move into the in-laws house for nearly a week. The dang ticks got worse and worse. I would simultaniously treat the house, yard and dogs...NOTHING!!!Finally on recommendation I bought this stuff called Cedarcide from a place in Spring, TX. 100% all natural cedar oil. This stuff WORKS AWESOME!!!! I drug all the furniture out of my house and sprayed carpet, beds, dogs, kids, furniture...you name it..I sprayed it! It's completely safe for people and animals. That stuff killed EVERYTHING! No BS, best stuff I have ever used in my life! And the best part was my house smelled like fresh cut cedar. I am definitely not a tree hugger and I seldom purchase "green" products but dang, I gotta give credit where it's due...that stuff works excellent. You might give it a try. It's the only thing I've seen that kills and/or repels ticks, fleas, chiggers, mosquitos, wasps, no-see-ems', spiders instantly!

The best way is to stuff your pants into your socks and spray off on your jeans around the ankle. That way they have to crawl over the off to get onto you. Best way I know off. And dont stand underneath oak trees.

Sulfur sock. If odor is not an issue fill a sock with sulfur powder, like for dusting rose bushes, tie a knot in it and pat down your shoes, ankles, pant legs and even waist with it. Apply a couple times a day when working in the woods. Keeps chiggers down too.

Use Repel with permeron on your clothes. Just spray your clothes and let dry. Usually good for a couple of wearings and even a wash. I watched ticks on my pant leg fall off and die. Do not spray directly on skin though.
