this one is ghetto...would have put some more money into it if I was smart and didn't hunt places that I could trotline from the stand legs.

Let you imagination go wild. I got tired of painting so I build mine out of steel now and to off set the heat I insulate the walls then carpet the interior. shelves are a must of course. But the I also fix them with coax for antenna reception which can power a 12 TV, fan and/or cooler. I know it is extreme but like I said imagination is dangerous, but fun.

This box is 4' x 5'. I added the front porch this last year. It is 4' x 6'. I will be adding them to all future towers.

About as simple as it gets. The door was the most expensive item. I have since put a corrugated tin roof on it.

These are made by West Texas Hunting Supply. They are between 3-5k each (depending on tower size and other extras.) They are 100% worth the money and have a life time warranty. They are 5x7 and very comfortable. Right now we have 5 of these on our ranch.

I built three of these bow blinds last summer in my garage and then dis-assembled them and took them to the ranch. Took about 8 hours to put em back together.

They're 6'x6' with a 7' front sloping to 6.5' in the back. Windows/doors just hinge down and with the eves haven't had any water penetrate so far. Plenty of room inside for 2 and 3 is possible but not real comfy. Used radiant barrier decking under the metal on the roof and am surprised how tolerable they are in the middle of the summer.

They're shown with the primer coat but have since been camoed.

Regards,
Scott

That's pretty slick, kinda like a 'small cabin on wheels' or maybe for some, the 'getaway house' from the better-half or honey-do's.

want an advice? if don't, who cares;)
use a ground blind, tent type. it's cheaper, easier to get one and if you need to move your feeding place the fixed ones are a problem. If you have money and can reach the hunting places by car buy one of those luxury "roulottes"

There's a store off of 290 between College Station and Houston. This was about 6 years ago now, but it basically came as 5 pieces of plastic, a ton of screws, and a bunch of bars. The plastic tries to flex away from you while you're putting it together, making it really tough.

The next time I head to my land, I'll see if they still have any and how much they are.

And you guys might be making a liar out of me. I may have paid for the base separately. Maybe it was $300 for just the blind. I honestly don't remember, so please don't make plans based on what I said.

I have several of the ones made by Atascosa Wildlife. They are expensive but worth every penny.I very seldom hunt out of a blind though.

A couple years back, Dad cooked up an idea for a "lifetime" stand for his retirement property, I of course jumped on board, and we set about getting it built.

It took us about a year and a half of fiddling with it on weekends (maybe once a month) to get the first one done, he's got plans for 2 more.

It's fully welded 1½" 14ga square tubing framing, with a ¾" marine grade plywood floor, Hardiboard siding, Lexan windows, and R-panel roof.

He's going to finish it with some synthetic stucco before deer season starts this year.

The base is from a previous stand, it's about 3' tall, and 2x2x¼" angle iron.

The floor footprint is 4' x 8'

This is an all metal blind (except for the floor) I bought from a friend for $200 and then put about $150 into it replacing the floor, insulation and building all new windows.

I have a 4x4 blind made with 2x4s and OSB. The windows have fold down plywood shutters on the outside, with plexiglass inserts on the inside. All windows and doors have gutters above them to keep out the rain. The roof is corrugated vinyl, like you put on porches or carports. Plenty roomy, with carpet, shelves, blind buddy in the corner, hooks for backpacks, even a peep hole to check out the back door. Top it off with a comfy old office chair and there you have it.

I have a nice wooded knoll to put my blind on the ground, so I don't have to worry about putting it up off the ground on a stand.

Not true, as ilustrated in that pic. That terain doen not need elevated blinds if you put a ground blind you would see everthing under the trees, way up there you see trees.

You're seeing what's behind the blind. You can't see what the blind is facing, can you?

still, you could see more if that blind was on the ground.
In my opinion tower blinds are only good in very low brush situations, mostly west Texas and some of south Texas

true if there isn't a whole lot of underbrush in the "woods". That would mean climbing stands would be useless in the world of hunting.

Interesting. You know exactly what can be seen from a blind you've never been in.
Amazing.

Please post a pic of your crystal ball that you seem to have in your back pocket that allows you to judge other folks set up. Based some of your other posts and this one - please quit being a downer on this forum.

I understand, people hate it when Im right, I know I know.
Do what you please, It aint my blind.
But just maybe, others will understand and build blind heights to terrain conditions not just for the cool factor.

So I guess in an open hay pasture I should have a stand on the ground?

wouldnt matter unless theres trees near you, then I would want to see under the trees, bucks could hang up on the edge and not venture into the field till dark, why lose an opportunity that might arive.

Wow.
I guess you have your own show on the Outdoor Channel....
Or not. Because if you did, you would know that unless you are hunting giraffes, the probability of being winded is much lower the higher up you are.

The outdoor channell is full of blithering idiots.
I do know a little about wind.
Lets be clear a hog can smell 50 times better than deer.
I just killed one at 20 yds, with a bow, and a ciggarette hanging out of my mouth, oh and a beer can next to me, oh sitting on a chair with no blind, oh and not a thread of camo, and yes free ranging.

You guys act like these animals are smart, maybe, but I am a helluva a lot smarter.
When hunting I make things happen, I dont wait for things to happen.
I always outsmart my prey.

Some people on this board are know it all blithering idiots who make claims about what they have supposedly done with no proof to back it up.

Why don't you guys start a blithering idiot bouncing boob thread and let us hunters get back to looking at our fellow hunters ingenuity in building box blinds? confused2

I know I have a tendancy to overbuild, but this things rock solid. I'm 6'4" and i get tired of hitting my head to it has a 7 ft ceiling. I was lazy and didn't want to cut the plywood floor so its 4' X 8'. lots of leg room. The only thing I'm doing different this year is replacing the legs with 10 ft ones so i have a little more height, and I'm moving it to a new location.

Tip: Make sure you use treated lumber, especially for the floor. I used 3/4" treated plywood for mine. Its a little more expensive but better than falling through a rotten floor.

Great job on the stand, I wanted to ask on the roof did you put plywood down first ot is it just the tin? I'm fixing to redo a stand and was wondering about that.

Thanks for showing us the blinds. I have to build one this season and I'm getting some good ideas from all the great photos. I'm not a carpenter so I need all the visual help I can get. If anyone has any plans I'd really appreciate getting a copy.

Here is my blind, it is a 4x6x6. Got it built here in Corpus, very sturdy and good quality. I will probably build a platform for it to raise it about 3ft.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Not quite Looz-e-anna but you can smell it from there!

San Augustine county. It was "fairy tale" type woods last year, but as you can see, it was clear cut in early '10. No big deal, I think the hunting will actually improve.

It will absolutely improve. Natural borders, i.e. treelines and rivers are huge draws for deer. They did you a favor.

Yup, you're going to have to maintain it though, couple of years and you won't be able to see chit, burn it next year.

x2, if that's timber co land I'de get one of their foresters or biologists on the phone and try to work out the largest foodplot area possible before they come in and plow and replant.

I just screwed it on with a few 3" wood screws. The thing's so heavy it just sits there. It's been through several big storms and hasn't moved yet.

Yes, as there are no trees and you can see further on the ground. I would even go as far as sinking a stand in the ground on flat/level ground! That way you can REALLY see a long distance bs

6x4 box blind a just got out last weekend. Fairly easy and cheap to build. It's on a 6" raised floor and stands 5' tall with a bit of a pitch.

Still need to get windows in there.

I got one about 9 yr ago paid about $300.00 for the stand & my oldest son still hunt out of it.I made my own base for about $100.00 8' tall but you can buy the base which I believe comes in either 6' or 10' but i think then they were like $250.00 & $ 300.00. Just make sure you tie it down thier super light!!!!

Yes plenty sturdy, and light enough to raise with 4 wheeler or two people. Had these up for 8 years, no problem with any of them.

Fiberglass custom blinds I build. 4x6. Very quiet, very warm. Usually do not put window in the back unless requested. Interior, from windows up, is painted black.
Inside of stand

Outside of stand

$600. Just for the blind. I don't ususally make the stand for it to sit on...but can. That would be a little extra.

I custom fabricate them from scrap material where I work. They are perfect for 1/4" plexiglass.

Here is one I just finished. It was a similar set up, but it got blown over and I had to rebuild it. So I made it 3 foot taller, built a new box for it, and added stairs to get in.

These 2 were already in place when I joined my hunting club this season.
Well built stand with glass windows and held together with bolts.
Older stand the will need to be replaced after the season.
