Alright guys, give me your best sales pitch for a game camera. My best one is finally giving out after running continuously for almost 5 years. Actually, it still works but the flash is dead.
It was the top-of-the-line at the time Stealth Cam. What I liked most about it is the battery life. It will run, taking plenty of pictures, for up to 5 months on the same set of batteries. Really pretty amazing.
I'm not opposed to running the next one off solar. Anyway, I'm looking for the best value.
So, what do you think is the most bang for my buck?

GO on ebay and see if you can find the same stealth model on sale. That is what I recently did.

I have used a couple of cams and the Cuddiebacks are the best and easiest I have seen. They are so simple a redneck can use them.

I don't recommend Leaf River. I second that I hate mine. It works sometimes but it sucks at the same time. Buckeye is the best.

moultrie D40s are cheap but I highly doubt they will last 5 years. I have a D40 that is 3+ years old and has taken several thousand pictures. The big negative about the D40's is battery life and the fact that if something does go wrong with it Moultrie can't/will not fix it.

I am a big fan of the Stealth Cam WD3, of course they don't make it anymore. But I am on my second one now, and like their trigger time and picture quality. Very easy to use, just have to scour Ebay for ones in good shape. Chasingame.com even raved about them.

I have a three year old Cuddeback No Flash that has quite a few thousand pictures, with no problems. I'd stay away from the newer C'back "Capture" IR, though the flash type Capture seems to work well for folks. The older No Flash has been one of the best hunting gear buys I've made.

yes I have the no flash also and had a tiny problem with it but they fixed that and it has never stopped working. Got it "resting" now getting ready for some antlers in may. The new capture flash camera takes awesome pictures but the battery springs/plates that touch the battery have a malfunction, they do not stay in contact with the batteries and therefore somehow running the battery dead. I will be returning mine to BPS. Have a cuddeback expert also, that believe it or not is better then my noflash just because I like color pics better then IR.

Yea, CC, The pics on the NoFlash at night are kinda grainy, but the fact it has worked, uninterrupted for so long makes that easy for me to forgive.
There seems to be a bunch of newer brands coming out that sound dang good.

We're running newer model Bushnell Trophy cams and very pleased with battery life, trigger action and pics. Ran d-40's till we got tired of sending them in every month for replacement.Just google trail cam reviews and there is a wealth of info.

I have 5 Moultries (the nice $350 ones.) I have had them for 6 months and have had to return all of them because they almost never work.

I have three cuddeback regular flash captures and they are almost 3 years old now, and still working good. not a lot of features... but they work and have a good trigger speed. I have heard the IR caputre has a very weak flash distance...meaning anything past 20-25 feet or so will be very dark. I"m sure the battery life is better with them, but I'd rather have better photos and replace the batteries more often.
I went through the moultrie I-40's and after taking them back for the LED screen going out (at least 7 cameras), I am completley done with moultrie cameras... anyone that would knowingly put out that much crap (even if academy will return them) isn't getting anyumore of my money. I have heard nothing but good things about the little scoutguards cameras too. I might try one of those this year and see how it goes.

All one has to do is get firmware updates for the Cuddeback IR models and, TADAA! Flash range and battery life is extended!

edit.. justsaw you were talking about the cuddeback IR, not the I-40.
so the ones they are building now have a better flash distance? the initial photos I saw were pretty bad.

I have two Reconyx. Never had a problem. I guess this will be one of thems 5th season.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

I use the trophy cams and they were very finicky at first and I was real close to taking them back but called the service line and got instructions on exactly what SD card to use and have had no problems since. (SD brand card) they hate the cheap one from walmart. I also have a older Moultrie with a 6 volt that I put a rechargable on with a solar panel and a 2gb disk. It takes great pictures and with the solar and the bigger disk it just shoots and shoots.
